My favorite was the turkey dinner on Fridays. turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, and her famous homemade rolls...yum! There was always more in the box than I could possibly eat. Yesss her stewed tomatoes were the bomb, I have tried for years to get the flavor like Gwen's but never have been able to achieve that sweet bitey taste.

I loved Gwen and her market. As a poor med student she used to allow us to "run a tab" and pay at the end of the month wehn we would get our stipend. She was great. Oh how I wish I could have one of those veggie plates with Mac -n- Cheese!

You people are absolutely pathetic. You trash a restaurant that you have never even visited and call people snooty because they wear clean clothes, have more than 3 teeth and don't meet their next date at a family reunion.

Its a great establishment that serves excellent food. Shame on someone for trying to make a living.

Now run along and go to Burger King for your Whopper and go ahead thinking that is what a hamburger is supposed to taste like.

You are actually the snooty one, to stuck on your lifestyle to accept people that choose to live differently.

Have a great day!

Gwen touched the lives of people from around the world who came to visit her world-renowned food and buy a vegetable plate for 1.75 or a meat plate for 2.50. I am sure she lost money on the business for many of the years she owned it, but all she cared about was that people had a warm meal and she'd give it away if they didn't have the money. She was the most kind, loving and caring women I have ever known and I miss her terribly.
The ghost was possibly there in that back corner, where the roll top desk used to be, while Gwen owned it. She talked about it. It is possibly the butcher from whom Gwen and her husband bought the butcher's shop from 50+ years ago. Who knows.
I do know that Gwen's family is very appreciative of the new owners leaving the "Clingman's Market" sign on the front window and a picture of her inside.
If you want to honor her memory, donate to Gwen's Meals at the Shepherd's Center in Lewisburg that Gwen started - to make sure people who were less fortunate had a warm meal. There should be a statue of her in downtown Lewisburg, she was/is an icon.
God bless Gwen and all of the lives she touched.

I loved Gwens, had breakfast and lunch there bout everyday. I could actually afford it when she ran it. Nothing against the stardust, I am sure their food is great, but there is not really a place in downtown that a person can get a real meal at an affordable price.

I went to Stardust with my wife and my parents from the UK who were visiting us. The food was nothing special honestly but the prices were just plain ridiculous, WAY more than it was worth.

If I remember correctly it came to something like $80 for what was basically a few sandwiches and I think my wife had some sort of rice dish. Like I said the food was OK but the pricing was just outrageous.

Suffice to say we're never going back there again.

I have not lived in my hometown for ages, and therefore cannot comment on Stardust Cafe,as I have never been there. But I can say that Gwen Clingman was a truly great lady.
