This is Ken from the county's new magazine, The Greenbrier Valley. I'm collecting local residents' opinions on the new MTV show "Buckwild" from people who have watched the first episodes. If you have an opinion on the show and you'd like to possibly see your words in our next issue, please email me at [email protected] and I'll tell you how to submit your thoughts.

Thanks!

I have not watched the show and I will not, but I have one suggestion. Feature someone other than JJ in you next issue. His name in the same size and font of the magazines name looks as if you are writing just for him. Honestley, I, nor anyone I know, read anything in it, because it appeared to be just another stunt of his to get recognition. If you recall the last election those who he supported, especially his candidate for the board of education, were voted down in this county. People are tired of having him cramped down our throats. Our great county is about much more than Jim Justice.

I used that magazine to wipe my butt with. Could you make it with softer paper the next time?

How is this any different than jersey shore, real world, and all those other reality MTV shows. A bunch of twenty something kids being wild and crazy. Lighten up people.

In my opinion the first episode was very realistic. Lots of people live and grow up the same way they do.I know my friends and I did. Let's face it theres not much around here to do and what is can be very expensive. They were just having fun and I didn't see them hurting anything. I hope people everywhere are not so narrow minded as to think that everybody in WV is like those people in every way. I would rather see them mudding or swimming in a creek than stealing or doing drugs but that's all just my opinion.

i agree, growing up my friends and i did a lot of the same things these kids are doing. it's no secret.. shoot we had a great time. we didn't do drugs, we didn't steal or break any laws. the stuff we did may have been stupid but, it sure was fun and mostly harmless. i personally love the show, it brings back a lot of great memories.

It is more like the low-life than anything to be broadcast or exemplified as desireable.
People may say there is not much to do, but that is so far from the truth.
And they say what there is to do costs a lot, showing how wrong they are to think money is necessary to entertain or occupy someone.
What the kids and those whose life they mimic are missing is that they could do far better with their time. So, the mimicing should stop.
Teach the children useful hobbies and give them the skills they will need to find where their heart lies, then you give them something to grow on, instead of just doing the same wasteful, useless nonsense.

I'm currently a WV resident and have been for almost 10 years. I watched the show out of curiosity after everyone getting mad about it coming out. I don't see what the big fuss is...hell me, my siblings, and friends did the same d@mn thing if not worse! The show is not based on where they are from it's about their crazy young adult lives. Never seen anyone getting a fire lit under their butts when "Teen Mom" is filmed in Charleston and the girl is from WV...teen pregnancy is okay but young adults having fun and acting a little crazy isn't? Lighten up people, at least it shows that we in WV know how to have fun ;) The show isn't based on the lack someone being smart ... the people making a big fuss is the ones who bring the attention and make it that themselves!

Well, it's a so-called "reality" show, all of which are scripted & staged. If "reality" shows weren't scripted & staged, not nearly as many people would watch them. In fact, they have to go by scripts & set-ups in order to keep it interesting - or stupid - enough to keep peoples' attention. Bottom line is it's just another show that is faked, scripted & staged just like all the others. No better or worse. The only reason people make it such an issue is because it helps makes WV look bad, & we already look bad enough as it is.

Genius it is not, give us an example of what there is to do in this state for teenagers. Most teens don't want to build birdhouses, whittle on the porch or knit. Give us some examples. No I am not a kid, I'm retired but I keep hearing that there is so much to do here. Name a few things that the kids would want to do more than once. We have bike trails but can you imagine 10,000 kids on the trails at once? Fishing spots but the same thing here, not enough fish for that many kids. And this is just using the number of kids in Greenbrier county. You do realize thare are more than a couple of kids in this state, right? They don't even have a place to gather without being rousted by the police because someone complained or the cop is just envious of them.

The things like movies or bowling cost so much money. Mud bogging and swimming in the creek does not. That kind of fun is real fun and cheap at that. If you don't like the show don't watch it but for a lot of us in WV that's just how we live.
