This paper is a joke. Michael Showell is a hippy still living in a medicated daze from Woodstock. How can they charge for this crap? Anyone agree?

It's NOT free! And they have had writers for years that are nuts! Egotistical nut jobs! Crap paper, wouldn't wipe my butt with it.

There was one writer that did nothing but stand on her soap box, surprised they let her. She is a legend in her own mind...

From a publiahed writer to all you keyboard geniuses-
TRY IT!
Write a pertinent piece for publication-
Artists- make a quick sketch-
Cartoonists- use your better judgement-
Kids- describe your observations of your world.
I dare you all to flavor or local publications with LIFE.
GO FOR IT!!!
Photos work, but not so well as the first hand narratives-
Now go for it y'all, make it yours, and make it good!

Sounds like we have another highly educated, superior in all ways literary genius whining about how difficult their CHOSEN profession is. Any REAL writer wouldn't work for a little local rag, but would be employed by one of the BEST publications in the country, and certainly wouldn't be griping on Topix. Go take your superiority trip to another Topix board, this one isn't interested in your rant.

Highly educated though I may be, writing is not my chosen profession.
Only once did I write for a paper, and it was editorial.
I have written several times for one of the country's best magazines, paid employment, but I just did it for the challenge.
I have also produced illustrations for publication.
And I was once paid to critique an established national magazine.
None of these things make me superior, just informed, involved, and respected by editors.
I have shared my abilities, and I encourage others to share their's as well.
What would make anyone angry about that?

Imagination is more important than knowledge, said Mr. Einstein.

I'm not a writer by profession, that's why I know anyone with perspective and good verbage can write if they want to, even for publication. Editors do give advice and catch things that could be better written.
My magazine editor says they will take anything I give them for publication now. That's why it is no longer a challenge, and I haven't done it in years.
I have recently thought of producing for our local publications, but something really different, so different it could go regional or even national.
Does anyone else have original ideas that are worth working up for the papers? Surely I can't be the only one.

Simple solution, if you don't like it, don't buy it and don't read it.

That's no rant. It is a challenge to those who gripe about the newspaper to try doing better.

You came up with insults and mis-judgements in reply that do qualify as rants, though. Can't you do any better, or are you just too fond of being wrong and rude?

One of the first lessons in creative writing is to get your thoughts down without concern over whether the spelling and punctuation are "just so" because what is important is the inspiration that drives you to want to write in the first place.

I don't proof my topix posts too heavily, or else the errors others type UP ONE SIDE AND DOWN THE OTHER might bug me. SO, SO FUNNY!!! Laugh with me! You know it's funny!

Now, since a and s are side-by-side on the keyboard I will let you in on a secret- TYPO!
That's all, just a typo.
