I agree with Lbg resident. It seems as though most of our society now suffers from "histrionic personality disorder", which is clearly shown by all of the dramatic reactions toward this story. I do not, by any stretch of the imagination, condone pedophilia, however, I believe it is a disease or addiction comparable to alcoholism or drug addiction. I really doubt that Sandusky felt that he was harming these children. It is concerning that so many seem to lack the ability to see another's perspective, or empathize, with someone with an obvious disorder. Fortunately, i have never been sexually abused, and I have no idea how I would react if I was. As callous as this may sound, you cannot just assume that all victims of sexual abuse, or any abuse for that matter, are scarred for life. We are treating Sandusky as if he intentionally went out with the mindset of destroying these boys' lives. I strongly believe that Sandusky had no control over himself, like when an alcoholic goes on a binge, or when a drug addict gets high. Unless you have walked in Jerry Sandusky's shoes, you have absolutely no way of knowing the entire truth, none of us do. Just because someone is found guilty, doesn't mean that they really are. People seem to be extremely close minded, and believe everything they hear. There are always multiple sides of a story, and we as spectators, have zero insight into the actual situation.
The difference of a person drinking and doing drugs is the only one who they are violating are themselves. You should be sickened by your comment and embarrassed that you wrote it.

I am looking at this case very objectively, not subjectively, like many seem to be doing. How does everyone feel so confident that these accusations are 100% accurate, you really don't know... You just believe everything that you hear. Ever heard of critical thinking? I honestly have no idea how I would react if this happened to my child. I am not going to say that I would want him dead or I want him to spend the rest of his life in prison because I simply do not know what I would do, because luckily I am not in that position. Yes, I feel sorry for Sandusky, that doesn't make me a horrible person, just the opposite actually. I do not condone pedophilia, however, for me, something must be 100% and I want to see quality physical evidence, in order to fully believe it. That being said, even if I was 100% certain that Sandusky committed these heinous acts, I, as a human being, would hold sadness in my heart for him. He was someone's son, maybe he was sexually abused as a child, how sad is that, that may be where he leaned this behaviour? He was someone's husband and father. If he did commit these crimes, he deserves to be punished, however I am not totally convinced that all of this actually happened.
How can someone who sounds so smart be so dumb?

How do we know that an 11 year old cannot consent to sex with an adult? Because society tells us that, right. I agree, children should not be having sex with each other or adults, but with all of our societal mores aside, you cannot really define when a person is capable of consenting for sex. Just because many abuse victims claim to be traumatized, does not mean that they really are. Maybe as they got older, and heard about other cases of abuse or told others about their experience, they began to realize that our society disapproves of this behaviour. Why is it wrong and what makes an 18 year old, or some 25 year olds, so different from a 15 year old or a 17 year old?

I am not defending him, nor am I against him. If these accusations are, in fact, true, I strongly believe that Sandusky had no control over himself. Have you ever known an alcoholic or drug addict? While the person knows what he or she is doing is wrong, they do it anyway because of the addiction. Yes, in our society, we hate pedophiles because they prey upon innocent children, but in some countries, and historically, pedophilia has been acceptable. Maybe it is natural for some people, as is alcoholism and drug addiction. Bottom line is, if Sandusky is, indeed, a pedophile, he is disordered, and should not necessarily be treated as a criminal, the same reason alcoholics and drug addicts cannot be rehabbed in prison. I don't believe that Sandusky's actions were malicious in intent.
Would someone shut this dumb a$$ up! You say you don't believe he was doing it malicious, can you prove that? You say you want proof that this happened to those boys. You are a f2cking demon to act so callous. Your words will haunt you, and I pray you might feel the pain of these children. Hope it haunts your dreams! You are a twisted person and need to wear a scarlet letter so people know you support people who support pedo. You will have no peace until you renounce your words! These are children who trusted this man and he knew what he was doing. In Fact that's what pedos do they pray on children to feel power!

You clearly do not understand what I am trying to convey. I stated that I do not support pedophilia, reread my statement please. I am strongly against pedophilia, but I do have empathy for individuals with pyschiatric disorders.

I'm sorry you are a f*cking idiot. Society can say what ever they want, wrong is wrong. If you would look up a psychology book you'd see that kids that go through this suffer from a wide variety of problems. How dare you act like it's no big deal. Kids do not have the mental capacity to deal with sex, let alone sex with a grown a$$ man. You are sick, no matter how you look at it. It's sick! I curse anyone who feels bad for the person who preys upon children and not the child.

Why is it wrong? Because you just think it is wrong? Teenagers up until they are 18 years old don't have the mental capacity to deal with sex, but at 18 years old, something magical happens? Everyone develops (physically, mentally, emotionally) at different rates. I believe that if society says that all 18 year olds are prepared to consent for sex with anyone of any age, there is not a huge difference between some preteens/teens and 18 year olds.

Maybe, just maybe, an 11 or 12 year old has the ability to consent to having sex with whomever, even an old man if they want to. They may realize that it was a mistake later on in their lives, but then after speaking with others about it and hearing the media talk about how essentially any sex with a minor is pedophilia, the now "victim" begins to feel ashamed, embarrassed, and violated. I believe that there can be a very fine line between violating someone and having consensual sex.

One hundred years ago, it was not uncommon for 13 or 14 year old AMERICAN girls to be married to older men. This practice still occurs throughout many countries. There is no wrong or right when it comes to sexual acts, only acceptable and unacceptable, and what is considered acceptable and unacceptable varies greatly.

An 11 or 12 year old MAY consent to this to gain approval from the molester, however Sandusky encouraged/demanded these sexual encounters. HE WAS THE ADULT, and these kids knew no better. Justify it however you like, psychological problem or not, Sandusky RAPED these boys. Don't tell me that he did not know he was wrong...he has lied to everyone including his family since the allegations came to light. He was the ultimate manipulator, and thought he was untouchable in his position. Again, I vote for castration :)

I am not justifying what Sandusky did or did not do because I was not there when these incidents occurred. I was not involved. If these children were really raped by Sandusky, yes I feel horribly for those children, but does that make me want Sandusky to be treated like a piece of $%^&? When you were young, did you ever hear the saying "two wrongs don't make a right"? Well, that applies to this case. Torturing and humiliating Sandusky does not make what happened to those children disappear, it solves nothing. We, as a society, need to keep our emotions in check, and figure out a way to prevent atrocities like this from ever happening to our own children. I am not blaming the victims, but maybe if they had a stable family lives and proactive fathers, this wouldn't have occurred. Our society is broken, and that is exactly why pedophiles can get away with these things.

Rape and molestation are malicious. The people commiting these acts get off on the force, shame, humilation, and power. It isn't love or regular sexual attraction. It may not be his fault that he is a monster but that is what he is. His victims deserve justice and he needs to be removed from society. Even if someone's behavior is out of their own control, once they become danger to others they need to be stopped.
