It was a great place when Dr.Jones was running the school. He was a wonderful person who hired qualified leadership. The leadership that is in chage today does not have the education or background in the management areas they are responsible for. Most of the senior executive staff have been placed in those positions not because what they know but who they know. Anyone who is qualified and applies there is turned down because the leadership is terrified to hire anyone who has the proper educational or management skills background. Many of the senior staff are affraid to hire someone that is more qualified than them in fear of losing their very lucrative positions. As a result of such practices the manaagement staff is no longer qualified to create an eniviorment that employees will learn or grow in. This will continue as long as the HR representatives that do not have the education or HR background are allowed to screen the applicant's that do have the proper skills to create a pleasant working environment. I have always believed that for an organization to grow one should surround themselves with colleagues that have skills and talents that exceed yours. This is certainly not the case when speaking of the administrative staff in charge at WVSOM. Dr. A needs to address this problem or the Board needs to get involved if he will nt take corrective action.

Read that too. It was originally in the Chronicle of Higher Education. It was pretty easy to find IF you can use Google!

It's not unusual for the well educated and well qualified to move on to bigger and better jobs in other great locations. WVSOM could just be a stepping stone or resume builder for them.

Who is the Human Resource Director at WVSOM? I have heard that she has no experience in human resource and never did this until she started there. Is her background in HR? Surely, this could not be possible for an institute of higher learning to place an inexperienced individual in such a position. Maybe this is an example of the early post that it's not what you know it's who you know. Maybe here lies the root of the problems for not being able to keep or attract top talent!!!!!!!!!

Please tell me what you have to do to get hired at the O-School. I have applied there for several jobs and never hear a thing. I have noticed the same jobs are on their web site for months. I know I am more than qualified for the positions I have applied for. I have a couple of girl friends that have worked there for years and they say this is a serious problem. Jobs are posted but never filled. Does anyone know who you could contact to get involved to see what the problem is. Who really runs the O-School? Who are their Governing Board Members? I would like to contact them.

Leslie Bicksler and Tiffany Burns are over HR. I know one girl who was interviewed there twice for the same job and they told her that "she was a strong candidate" but they hired somebody else who didn't have any experience and the girl didn't last no time. The position has been advertised for again several times - I also knew a nurse who worked there and they made her work the WVSOM booth at the State Fair and they wouldn't pay her for her time she spent doing it.

Cronyism.
I'm here now and it's terrible. Go work for and study at a different medical school. They don't care about students or staff, just income and greed and status/position. Sad. Lewisburg is such a nice town though...

How sad. I was hoping WVSOM had some integrity but it appears that they are hindered by the same issues as GVMC. How grievous. I was looking to apply, if a position that I am qualified for ever became open.

I know for a fact that one of the HR representatives has a Master's Degree in Human Resources and worked her butt off to get it. The other thing that people need to realize is that HR does not have the final say in who does or does not get hired. The department that is hiring for a certain position does that.

Sounds like you are unhappy working there. Perhaps you should find another place to work and let another qualified person fill your position.

It doesn't matter how many times you apply at WVSOM or how much education you have Its based on who you know. I have a friend that applied for a position in house and had a degree and experience. When she talked to the HR lady she was told they was trying to find a "fit" for that position. That they was bringing a temporary person in to be trained in the open position and they was looking strongly at hiring her. Come to find out the "temp" person was good friends with the person that she was going to be working with and a few others. Im sure its a good place to work and the people I know that do work there are great there but watch your back.
