Do you even know what the inmate in their for? I would think the police know who they can trust and not. could be someone that didn't pay child support. Hardly a danger to the public.

When is the last time you read the news about some freakin maniac that went on a nut killing people only to read the comments by his friends, family and co-workers. "Oh, he was such a nice man." "My son would NEVER do that!" "They must have the wrong guy, he was such a happy person." Yeah... right. How many times have you read where a criminal escaped escorts, or attacked someone in a courtroom, or even walked off a work detail? More times than I can count. They are not to be trusted. That is why they put them in cuffs and chains.

Most people who go to jail have something wrong in their heads. Criminals who commit small petty stuff don't spend much more time in jail than a couple of days. These crooks who are going to a dentist are long term criminals that don't think straight like the rest of the world. They will spend most of their time either in jail or in some sort of trouble. I don't want my kid or mother placed in even a remote situation of trouble all for a toothache!

What about the lawyer that shot at her boyfriend in Columbia???I bet she got off free as hell....why???because of who she is....now do you think that is right???yes, she also happens to be kin to some one here in Lewisburg....One that has money as well....so would you object to sitting in the dentist office with her????

From what I understand most of the inmates either pay for the dentist themselves or have family's that do. It sound's like he was restrained and an officer escorting him. I can assume nothing worth mentioning happened, or it would be all over this discussion. So again I ask what's wrong and what would you do different?

Those you mention that you would not consider bad people, are not the people being taken to a dentist. They are not in jail long enough to have to go see a dentist. Those criminals being taken to the dentist are long term HARDEN criminals. They have long sentences to complete. They are bad people.

All that has already been pointed out, which part don't you understand? Why do people always have to wait until somebody is maimed or killed before they say "Oh, this is a problem"?

The problem is, there may be clients in the waiting room that have suffered a violent crime and can become a basket case at the presence of an inmate. Do they deserve that? No. The problem is, even restrained inmates have gone on the nut and attacked their escort (unarmed btw) over came them and escaped. The problem is, the potential problems. Got it now?

Probably not armed for fear of the inmate doing exactly what I described, over powering the officer. Sad they gave it that much thought but no thought to paying clients.
Just saying so

Usually larger prison systems have their own medical and dental facilities and treat the inmate inhouse. Lewisburg, of course, does not.

I think it was pretty rediculous to bring an inmate to the waiting room, period.

I assume that the city has a contract with a dentist out in town and the best approach would be to treat the inmate after hours at the dental office. This avoids all types of problems on many levels.

Hey little boy, school out for the summer? Didn't they teach you that inmates do not have the same rights as common citizens? Will you only be satisfied when somebody gets hurt or killed? The issue is not about whether or not somebody got hurt, it is whether or not somebody might get hurt. Speaking of making ignorant statements... way to go, you're on a roll. I hear your mama calling, you better go, little boy.

Medical Care
Prison officials are obligated under the Eighth Amendment to provide prisoners with adequate medical care.1 This principle applies regardless of whether the medical care is provided by governmental employees or by private medical staff under contract with the government.2

The Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights prohibiting the FEDERAL government from imposing excessive bail, excessive fines or cruel and unusual punishments, including torture. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that this amendment's Cruel and Unusual Punishment Clause applies to the states.

That means the rest of it does not apply to the states, only the Federal prisoners. In fact, until that ruling NONE if it applied to state prisoners AND none of it relates to the health care benefits of said prisoners. It is not cruel or unusual punishment to just have an on sight doctor yank a tooth instead of sending them to a dentist to fix it. They do that in Florida. It is only by the grace of the County that they receive any services at all. Have you seen how Arizona and New Mexico treat their state prisoners? You might want to go get your money back for that college degree. They ripped you off. Eat that biotch!

I hate to break it to you, but 'wonder girl' is correct that despite the 8th amendment, prisoners do NOT have the same rights as the rest of us. In fact, felons have much less rights even after they get out. They can't vote, they can own a gun.... The list goes on. But I see that this thread actually brings up a good point and that is the rights of paying coustomers. They should not have to be subjected to seeing inmates in chains. Good gosh! Especially small children!! What fear that must instill in their little minds of seeing a human tied down with chains!!! Have you no heart or compasion for the little children? And the rest of you that have not brought that up!! What is the matter with our society today?? Standing up for criminals and casting the feelings of children to the side!! You people are eveil as they come!

You and "Human rights" need to get a grip on life. A criminal is exactly that, a criminal. Have you ever been raped or been a victim of a violent crime? how do you think those people feel? do you suppose they look at people dressed in orange with handcuffs as just some common Joe? can a customer tell the difference between a petty thief and an axe murderer or rapist? have you no compassion at all? a customer at a dentist office does not deserve to have to be put through an ordeal or be forced to have an anxiety attack all because a criminal has a toothache. criminals do not have the same rights as we do. not even after they get out. the percentage of inmates who are there either by accident or even their innocence is so small it is not worth discussing. I hope you are never raped or on the receiving end of a violent crime because of what it does to you and what it does to your mind, and what it does to the rest of your life. you both should be ashamed of yourselves and learn with compassion really is. forgiving the sinner does not always fix everything.
No...you need to get over it! I was molested and raped from the ages of 9-11. I've been a Victim of robbery, hit and run, home invasion, and abuse...but I don't live in the past. I am a Victor, and you need help. People make mistakes...just like you did by assumeing that nothing ever happened to me, according to your post...but guess what??? I'm no different than you, I just chose to forgive. I will never let the past determine my future or take the peace I have in my heart. If you don't change your thinking, you will eventually die a very, very hard hearted and angry person...not the life i would want.

You people don't even know that prisoners situation, and you have judged him for what. You are all going to hell in a handbag. How does that statement feel...QUIT JUDGEMENT...it not your place and I dont believe any of you sit on that seat as JUDGE...thank God. Why don't you just give the Guy the death penalty.

Here...look up this Law: Pre Trial Detainees Law. They have the EXACT same rights to medical care as you! Get a life people!
