I have two daughter 10 and 14. In recovery and will be sober three years in feb. I pay my bills and provide our needs, but I don't have a dime left after. I have two Christmas lists here and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions? I've rebuilt our life... It's a work in progress. I just need a little hand this Christmas

Your situation is one I fail to understand. If you need help now, at Christmas, why not the rest of the year? Is this because our society has placed some sort of morbid pressure on parents to buy, buy, buy toys and more for their children? On a specific date? What about the rest of the year? I thought Christmas was about the gift of Salvation from our Lord Jesus? I am not trying to be a negative Scrooge here, but what are you teaching your children? This is the perfect time too teach them that it is not about excess. It is not about how much did I get.

Our society should be ashamed for having perpetuated the most horrible time of the year. This is the time so many feel alone. And again, why? Why now and not during June or August, January, February? Because we have become accustom to believing that there are special times of the year for giving and coming together. For that, I feel sorry for you. If Christmas is about Christ, then teach them that it is better to give ALL the time to those in need, not just on December 25th. And take heed of the words in need. Food, and clothing, not toys and phones and computers and the latest game or video. What you teaching your children?

As a matter of fact we just helped and set up a needy thanksgiving dinner in my hometown and it went great I give back and although Christmas is about Christ kids also needs to have the enjoy of opening gifts on that day. We do give back. We do help and you know. I feel sorry you. I work full time and take care of my family and for me to reach out isn't for handouts in was for recommendations on what organizations help with this. I feel sorry for you that your so judgemental that you question my parenthood because I want to make sure my kids have "something" under the tree. Praying for you as well

I'm not sure what happened to my last post but first of all I asked if there are any organizations that anyone knows of that helps with this kind of thing not a hand out. We give back. I work full time and I don't want help all year long. I don't collect food stamps... For you to ask how I'm raising my kids because I want something under the tree for them is shallow and you need prayer. I do my best all year and although Christmas is most definitely about Christ ... Watching your children's eyes light up when they open their presents is a long time thing that's been going on for many years so I guess you prob need to ask 95 percent of America "what they are teaching their kids" I'll pray for you. I should have known anyway this site does nothing but bash people and it's so uncalled for. I am truly in need I go to a food pantry to get food when needed, but don't one the weeks I can do it myself. I DO my best.

Get a second job part time or a better full time job. Lots of places are hiring for the holidays. When you have kids you do what it takes to support them

What do you want if not a handout? Yes, to many I may seem shallow because I no longer think like you and others who have taken a supposed time to honor Jesus to instead honor ourselves. If Christmas means consuming to you, then learn to do what others in your situation have done and spend your free time making gifts for the children instead of relying on others to do it for you. I had many ‘tight’ Christmas’ back when I played the same game, but I never relied on others to provide.

You say,“... Watching your children's eyes light up when they open their presents is a long time thing that's been going on for many years so I guess you prob need to ask 95 percent of America "what they are teaching their kids".

You are absolutely right! This is another reason we have become a debt society. People will actually go further down the road of ruin just so they can see the ‘children's eyes light up’. I have a hard time understanding that. Have a grand time in December, pay the piper in January and wonder why there isn’t enough food on the table for the next few months. If that is what you want, get it on your own.

If you are down on your luck and it is food you are needing, there are charities that can help you with that. Even Goodwill has stuff you can buy cheap and wrap up. If your children are under 6 or 7, they won’t care where it came from.

So you label me as spam, clueless and nuts. At least have to decency and balls (or vagina) to say why you object to my post. Otherwise, you only drive my point home and admit defeat. I am right and you are wrong!!!

First of all Merry Christmas and congratulations on being sober and coming back to life to take care of your children and yourself. That is the most important. Many people try and never make it so my hats off to you.

I do understand wanting to have something under the tree for your children. In my shopping around town I find that the dollar tree or dollar store has some items that would work fine as gifts that do not cost alot of money, also I agree with the other poster about Goodwill. Check out any toy drives around the area. Give that a shot, add some pretty paper and bows and fill your home with the Christmas spirit and all will be good.

Your children will remember the time you came back to them sober more than any Christmas present you coud give them. Have faith and God Bless you.

Ignorant people make me sick. If you dont have any positive information for this lady why even comment. Did she ask any of you personally to come out of your pockets ? I dont think so. Christmas help I respect you and your drive to get your life together and take care of your kids with no assistance. I feelthe people who help themselves recieve blessings. Dont let these negative people get you down with their stupid postings..

Clap, clap, clap... lots of nice words. Maybe she can cash them in at the nice word bank. You are full of yourself! Here you are attempting to make yourself look good (and me bad). And yet you did NOTHING more than I did. Clap, clap, clap. Keep delivering those nice words. The little kids will eat them up and be full!! A ss ho le.

Why do people do this to themselves? Why do they spend money they don't have to impress their kids and other people in the community? It's all competition and rarely is the real Christmas message spread.

Buy what you can afford, only if it's a bag of candy. Do the best you can and teach the children about giving. They will appreciate it.

So telling the OP to get a part time job is ignorant and stupid? LOL! You must be one of the many Loserburg residents that doesn't work (but is able to), and leaches off of government handouts
