I totally agree with your feelings especially of how employers/owners/CEOs have been steadily rapeing the workers and using the threat to move work overseas to hold them over the barrel!! I don't think our country is fu@ked up, though. We are still one of the best places to live in the world.

As for the water costs, we are still paying much less than many cities in the the US. Still, there have been accusations levied, the worst, if true would be piping water to another county IF that is somehow actually wrong. But all anyone does on this site is whine and cry about it. IF and I do mean IF anyone actually has any evidence of REAL wrongdoing and does not take it to those who oversee, or are in the position to do something about it, they are just as guilty. As for those on this thread making the accusations, if you don't have real evidence, shut the hell up! Sh!t or get off the pot as they say!

If either one of them are real, someone needs to be looking at a court hearing or a state review of sorts. Do we have an ethics committee that can look into this before we raise our hands for outside help? If they find it legal and we still have a problem, by all means raise the flag, then we will have more people to be looked at by outside sources, which is our best chance. That of course if everything is true.
Part of the problem is the council and board that is to manage and try to keep cost down for the water department is most of the problem. The council usually goes along with anything the board and k.c. asks for, that is just how they do business. Marsh is a new member and maybe he will bring reason to that board in the future. I believe the council on the other hand will approve the $10.00 because T.C. was appointed to the water board by Mayor Bingham and the Mayor is 100% behind him and apparently doesn't care for the average working man having to pay an additional $10.00 a month. Only one or two council members have opposed the water department increases in the past and that is not enough to stop this increase. What is sad about this is right now most people don't really care until they start getting their new bills with the increase in it. By then it is to late.

Actually, you have the water board calling the shots....It is a made up board to favor K.C. Some how the city council needs to get new board members on the water board...The problem with that is....the mayor picks the board members...and he is all for the water department...So one can say.. the council members hands are tied...The mayor will not take your call to discuss the situation...He will hang the phone up on you...As well as Trigg...... he also will hang up on you....They are all in it together...Trigg has some one telling him what to do...It is probably Barbara Woods...Trigg is suppose to be a grown man and can NOT make a decision for him self...What is wrong with that picture??? Guess she has to wipe his ass foe him, as well....

You must be a graduate of dumbsh!t 101. There's 101 ways to skin a cat and beating it to death is one them. This must be why they keep hanging up on you. As long as they are following all the rules and laws of governing and running a water department, you are nothing but a sounding gong to them. The only way to change government is by getting yourself elected, or finding some sort of illegal dirt on them and putting them in prison.

So unless you have some proof that they are doing something illegal, make plans to get elected or move. Of course there is one more suggestion, Mr. Suggestion: STFU!

You and your other whining nitwits need to find some hobbies to busy yourself with because you sure don't know anything except how to whine. Maybe start a... whinery. Har har har!

did anyone say any thing about illegal?
You must be part of the click. Why don't you set up a fund to help the elder people out that can not afford the increase. That could be your hobby.
I can afford my increase. Not wanting one, though.

So be the good person you would like people to see you as. start a fund for the elderly. Would you some cheese with your wine?

If you are the same person as "just a suggestion", what solutions did you suggest? None. Zip. Nada. Just a sounding gong. Clap, clap, clap.

I understand that some others cannot afford any increase in their budgets. Yes, I can afford it, but like anyone else, I don't want to give my money away to anyone. But... rising costs is nothing new and it will continue to happen in other sectors of our lives and it would behove everyone to make plans NOW to offset those increases rather than wait until they are implemented and then cry about it.

The big picture is, we will still be paying less than a good majority of the US for our water and there is nothing illegal about it. Yes, we can fight it and I suggest those who want to, to get involved. Instead of whining about it here on Topix, where almost no one sees it, write letters to the editor of the paper, get people together, get organized, attend the meetings. I have offered up 100% more than you and others have. My only complaint has been about the posters on this thread whining and crying about it. I currently am having some nice smoked cheddar with my wine, thank you.

this is not an immediate solution to the problem but will work in the future. Don't vote the same people back in office. If they increase your taxes-vote them out of office next time. If theY increase your water rates-vote them out of office next time. If they want listen to you-vote them out of office. Show your displeasure with what they have done but not re-electing them. that is the only way you will get their attention, otherwise they are going to do just what THEY want to do and if that is back scratching one of their friends then VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE NEXT TIME.

LOLOL! I can understand your thought process, but it is not a viable solution. You are just 'not' voting for one who won't listen to you for the next one that won't listen to someone else. Why not do what lobbyists do instead? Organize and get involved. Have parties, and get togethers in places like the public park with those who think like you do. 100 can do so much more than 1 or even 10. Threatening to not vote for someone is probably one of the weakest threats you can make to them. They will just laugh at you. But you get a couple of hundred people in one place at one time demanding the same thing, trust me, they are going to sit up and take notice. Good luck with getting them together because it is going to take a dynamic leader and a load of pissed off people to make it happen.

It was a close vote last meeting. Three in favor of the increase and two against. Was told several people spoke to the council against the raise but a majority voted for it anyway. Was also told that one councilman said after the meeting when talking to people in his ward about his vote that he said "he did give a damn who voted for him he was voting for the increase and pay raise for the water department." Thanks A.A. hope the public finds out about your attitude and your voting record and next time you run for office maybe you will give a damn who votes for you!

Once we find out who voted for it, I guarantee my entire family will never support or vote for them for anything. We need to clean this place up with fresh people, the further from here the better.

Why? Just because they voted for an increase? Anyone who votes for increase is a bad person? At least have the sense to say WHY you feel an increase is invalid. That is the problem with you people... you want to go against an increase but NOT because you feel it is uncalled for or wrong in SOME way, but simply because you don't want to pay it. I don't either, but at least have the balls or sense to come out and say WHY you don't think they need it. You people make me sick because you don't live with reason, you just live with greed. Greed for YOUR money. You are just as guilty as the ones you accuse!!!!

What is your stake in this? Board member? Yes voter? Or do you just like spending our money foolishly? It has been explained a dozen times why we did not want them to get raises. They need to suck it up and appreciate that they have jobs and benefits, that is why. I was always told, everyone needs to do more with less, that is why we get the big bucks, isn't it? Any idiot can run anything and make decisions if it doesn't affect them or come out of their pockets. Too many people getting theirs here.

You all are lucky the locals don't give a ratts butt about politics or anything else for that matter, just as long as they get something out of it or protection just because they are a local. That is why you want to keep every aspect of this local government local or connected.

Here is the answer you asked for:
1. Water dept. owes 19.4 million dollars
2. Have spent millions of dollars outside the city of Lewisburg
3. spent $960,000 for the LYNNVILLE line for 25 houses and a return of only $5,000 a year
4. Water dept. employees have received raises the last four years for a total of about 11%
5. water dept. pays 100% of their employees health insurance
6. pays 6% of their retirement
7. even though they can not pay their debt service they still want to give their employees a 2% raise from the $10.00 increase
8. water department was given a 19% increase in water rates and 27% increase in sewage fees only three years ago.

Now, how are these for reason why not to support the water dept. and the people who voted for it like Trigg Cathey, Steve Thomas, and Artie Allen. Two of which are newly elected councilmen. Do you really believe that $10.00 increase will ever be taken back if voted in, if so I would like to sell you a bridge in Brooklyn, New York.

It is quite clear that you do not feel the increases being asked for are appropriate, I can agree with those sentiments. That said, what is anyone doing about it? What research has been done in regards to the laws governing water utilities and rate increases? What is this $10 increase even called? Surely it is not an increase to rates.

Here is a good start with in looking to see if anything can be done:
http://www.tn.gov/attorneygeneral/utility/uti...

Has anyone contacted a lawyer about this?

Here is another site:

Here is the National Consumer Law Center

As you can see, the Tennessean American Water Company (TAWC) customers will likely pay a smaller rate hike than the company originally proposed as the result of intervention by the Tennessee Attorney General's Consumer Advocate and Protection Division.

There is hope is someone is willing to work for it. This is what I have been saying. I hear a lot of griping, but griping never buttered bread.
