According to sources 'money was supposedly given as additional incentive money paid to the coach and his assist coaches when they came here approved by mr dukes but not the school board. State is now investigating.' Both Mrs Abernathy and her attorneys are saying no comment and no public announcement regarding the issue.

Paying high school coaches under the table or by the Quarterback Club has been going on for a long time, esp. here in L'burg. Maybe JA is just wanting to do the right thing and treat them no different from other teachers. Now, do these coaches that were fired, did they actually teach an academic subject or was it something like lunchroon duty, study hall, basket weaving and pottery classes. Oh, I forget greens keeping and weight lifting. We need coaches that actually teach an don't expect to be treated differently from all the other teachers. If this is the reason JA let them go, then good for her!!!

Isn't it ironic that the Chapel Hill coach was forced to resign and he will be the nxt coach at MCHS because of politics! Congrats to JA for bringing in another Stacey. NOT!!!!!!! sorry move

Interesting comments - if you investigated, as I did, then you would know that all the coaches involved were actual classroom teachers and PE teachers. Plus if you knew anything about education today, all teachers are evaluated on their classroom performance. Besides I do not believe if she is as good as you think she is, basket weaving and pottery classes are not part of the curriculum. On the other hand, weight lifting is essential to the sport of football - just check all the other schools engaged in such a 'revolutionary thing'.

You did very poor research. P.E., Library, Guidance, Study Hall, and Lunch Room teachers are NOT ACADEMIC TEACHERS. There is a big difference between a regular classroom teacher and an academic classroom teacher. First, non-academic teachers are not held to the same standards on T-Cap Tests or TVASS Test results. The state givers them a free pass at this time and has for about the last ten years. Second, not one single non-academic class is needed to graduate from any high school in Tennessee. Third, three years ago the State Board of Education recommendated that all Tennessee high schools go away from the traditional school hour practices and classes. Everything related to them should be done all school not during school hours. It has already been mandated for most middle schools and I believe Forrest went to that type of scheduling last year but not M.C.H.S. Fourth, most coaches regardless of their degree or time teaching, I say that in jest, are among the highest paid teachers in their schools but not the A.P.teachers. So what is wrong with this picture. Next time you make a quote that says you have checked the info. maybe Al Bundy you need to recheck your facts again but you played high school football and that makes you an expert on all school related issues, NOT!!!!

Judging by the look of so many students, parents and educators, a weightlifting class might reduce the cost of health care later. Heck, any PE class would be a help.

If you go back to posts # 2 and #3, it appears the issue is not what they teach or don't teach but rather an issue of money under the table.

If Mrs. Abernathy is righting a wrong, then more power to her. I just hope she keeps it up!

If any money under the table is taking place its from Dirty Ja and a very corrupt school board
Abernathy should be in jail not in a position that has anything to do with children... face it... she didnt exactly do a great job with her own.

Can you read?

Illegal transactions of money under the table was "discovered" be JA.

Refer to a dictionary for the meaning of "discover".

for someone who thinks they know it all.. you really actually know very little factual information. These coaches taught special ed, history, geography, and math.

I agree.. JA and the Board have made a mess.. and in an effort to clean it up.... they have made Lewisburg a Joke.

My guess is someone shot from the hip hoping a take down will show severe action taken and no questions afterwords. Why are there so many problems in the county? Does it stem from those elected or appointed? Are they the problem and not the system. Why can't people around here conduct their jobs professionally without bringing in wrong doing? Is it business as norm here? We need a complete house cleaning and put people from outside the area who are professional, educated, not connected or care to think of how they can turn a situation into something that benefits them or their families. Locals can not be trust here. It has been proven over and over. When are the locals going to catch on? They are killing us with payoffs, unjustified raises and benefits.

Because at this time the lawyers for the school board are telling them not to make any statements until the entire issues are investigated, that how!!! Whether JA discovered it, LI, or someone else - it apparently has been uncovered just like what happened with the former city manager and treasurer dealing with the unapproved raises for city employees. Seems like it might be a similar thing but we will have to wait and see what the legal experts say. Also I don't think any of these coaches had tenure and as a result the school board or JA doesn't have to give a reason, like it or not that is the tenure law at this time.

You're right about tenure, that's why one of the coaches involved still has his job, at the moment. He better go too, not fair for 2 to be fired for a reason and not the other just because he's tenured. That's gonna open a whole new can of worms.

No sir, none of the coaches that were let go taught an academic class for no more than 2 blocks a day if that much. P.E.,study hall, lunch room duty, drivers ed., weight lifting and related classes, special ed. filing(not teaching)and coaching during the 4th block of the day ARE NOT academic classes. Special ed. teachers are exempt for TVAAS and T-Cap scores but it does count against the school but not the teacher. Just ask!! That last block by the way lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes every day and there is only 6 hours and 45 minutes in a regular school day. Add lunch time and a possible planning period and their day is just about over with before it starts. Are they getting paid twice for the same time because it is done during the regular school day. Yes there are some good coaches that do teach a full load like SR, former coach DS and WA but not these that were let go. Also I was told that one AP was not on duty during the last block of the day becuase he was also coaching football at that time. Getting paid twice for the same time it looks like to me. Give JA and the board a chance to make things right. The State Board of Education has already recommended that all sports and related classes be held AFTER regular school hours so that students can use all the school time to improve there grades on academic classes and not sports. Sports are important but should be done entirely after school hours and coaches should be teachers first and coaches second. JA and the board are not talking because Iam sure the school board lawyers have told them to make no statements until everything has been cleared legally. Don't say these things don't happen. Ask about former coaches Johnson and Mac and how easy they had it during the school day with no accountability except for the sport they were coaching. Open you eyes people and you might see that where there is smoke there is also fire.

When the story comes out, you will find out that the coaches were fired for stealing.
