Oh what to do

What to do about a co-worker spreading false rumors ? It causes low moral, our boss listens to her. She causes other employees to be written up, everyone is on edge. She is not a kid. What should we do?

Is their another person higher up to talk to? Maybe their is a Workplace Agency you need to call. Are you a kid? Keep a journal, all of you because it may be helpful, later on. Is is sexual rumors? A liar is evil and will take you down. Stay connected as a team with others and if possible don't be alone with her.
Hopefully someone will post more information.

In today's work place, unless you are personally being harassed, there is little you can do about it. Do not attempt to correct the situation yourself, you will only end up looking like the bad guy. If you ARE the one being harassed and the company is large enough to have an HR (human resources), you can go there and discuss it. If you are not the one being harassed, hang in there and try not to get involved into the situation or be a party to agitating it, making it worse.
If the person is spreading false rumors, sooner or later they will bury themselves. Tensions in the workplace may run high on occasion, and before you speak to others about your concerns, you should always make sure your own behavior is part of the solution, not the problem. For example, if you feel constantly annoyed because a coworker takes extra long breaks throughout the day to smoke or go to lunch, try to control your own annoyance rather than your coworker. Remember that others probably notice this behavior also and that when it is time for the boss to hand out bonuses or promotions, your rumor making co-worker may be left behind.
