But if the school board did not know about it and it did not follow the salary schedule for marshall county schools then it was done under the table or outside of the knowledge or approval of the board of education which in itself might be an illegal move.

Only contact that has been signed here in Marshall County the last 5 years is the one that the MCEA has signed for all teacher. I don't think the put a special clause in the contract for new coaches to get special treatment. Ask any school teacher, they have not signed a contract in many years it has been done by the MCEA.

But was it approved by the Board? Aren't teacher's salaries negotiated through the local teachers' union?
Currently there is no negotiated contract. Last year the new governor passed a law getting rid of negotiations between a union and school boards. The contract that was in place has expired and cannot be renegotiated because of this new law. The board still does allow representatives from mcea to address the board because they want to appear like they care about what the teachers want.

This is public school, not college or professional sports. Coaches and teachers are paid under contracts negotiated between the school board and the MCEA. I hardly think incentives to get coaches to move is a part of that contract. If Roy Dukes approved it, he was wrong. When they accepted it, they were wrong. If the money was paid by the quarterback club, they were wrong.
TSSAA rules allow high school coaches to be compensated only through funds from each school's governing body. Supplements and bonuses from parent and booster organizations are prohibited.

That being said, the TSSAA could cause games to be forfeited. Interesting situation. It seems that in trying to take care of the teams, she is being villified for not. Goes to show that the ignorant are clueless.

Thank you. I have not been able to find the final bill that was passed, but it appears that whatever was passed didn't happen until at least May of 2011. Am I correct that this coach has been here since the summer practice that started in 2010. If so, the county was still under the last contract. It was always my understanding they worked under the old contract until a new one was negotiated or in this case negated by the bill passed in the legislature.
Where Does the Money Go

What is the problem?
Could they just short the ball games gate receipts and concessions stand money pay the coaches out of that or short the school vending machines and lunch program money use that for the extra money to pay the coaches and teachers who think they work over time?

Haven't they been doing that for years?

Could they just use don't ask don't tell and not remember if they get caught?

The important factor in any successful school is community support combined with community enthusiasm. Football is the first sport of the new year. It involves a higher number of students both active and in supporting roles. The success or failure of the team transcends into the community and into the hallways. Show me a program that CONSISTENTLY fields a competitive football team and I'll show you a school and community blessed with positive direction and attitudes.

all of you are crazy, are you not reading the paper, folks see the local schools as not being able to produce smart kids with ethics and all you can worry about is sports, shame on you all, i say take all sports out and put the money in education so our kids can come from a school that its own town can be proud of, not one time have any of you make comments about needing books or update teachers. remember everyone sees the dummies our school puts out and they see that it is a high number not just a few.
Wow you should read a little more. 2012 class had several children graduated with honors.. They also had a lot of children with sports scholarships .I have went threw this with my children and thank god. They had the good grades and sports to get in college.. Why would anyone say take all sports out . This town has nothing here to do . Some children go to school, play sports ,and that is it. I also know several students in college from this town and they are not dummies. Also Look at D.H. what he has done .. I dare you to call him a dummy.... Also it is not all on the teachers here . What about the children and the parents. If the children go in the school and don't care how is more books going to help them. So my point is it starts at home with parents and children before they get to the teachers. Also if a child plays sports it don't mean they are dumb.

Right School Board and Community support is what is needed lets not tear down what any crooked coaches or crooked public officials have or have not done it just makes the whole School System Look bad!

Why worry about it if a few checks were writen or any official gets a little under the table money for something they did or not do?

Is that not the way Marshall County school boards, facts is all public boards and public officials have done for years, just look the other way?

Lets graduate, make sports nuts and crooks out of all the Marshall County School Children let the crooked public officials be the examples of how to be crooks and look the other way themselves?

Keep it hush Hush and be sure not let the public or paper know!

Then when the childre grow up to be crooks themselves don't complain about their education!

All you experts who believe anything and everything that is written and said about these coaches and point fingers and call these people names - remember, they have families and children too, and they are being convicted before all the information comes out. All the lawyers who will be involved will have a field day! So keep it up all you experts - all you are doing is adding the the legal file!

Have any of you ever read the stories of individuals getting sued by people that have been identified and lied about on Topix? It doesn't matter if you use intials or not.If you I.D. them by their job, were they live, go to school etc. You can be sued. Good luck with all this. I hope some of you have proof to back you up in court if it comes to that. You can hide behind a fake name, but when the lawyers call topix, they trace you through your computer.......I though everyone knew that....

I post on topixs, I ask questions, I make comments on remarks but I do not make things up. I would enjoy the chance to sue someone and the internet provider who would give out my identity.

If some said something like joe blow was seen doing a drunk monkey or threatened someone or said anything that would challenge national security yes, but if something is said about someone and some of it can be proven right, then that someone who had problems with the post will get it from both ends. So if you are a public figure, elected or appointed, keep your life clean like I do. Simple as that.

Unfortunately, people who coach high school football who are in the newspapers or on the radio or TV are public figures and open to critic just like elected officials. Yes, a person can be sued for liable or slanderous statements but rarely do they win.

One more thought: Topix does not guarantee your privacy and any court order will require them to give up your IP address. Under the law you have no expectation of privacy in such matters and therefore the case would not even make it to civil court.

'Support the crooks' should be careful not to judge these coaches and officials before all the facts come out. It is easy to be judgemental over the internet where you are anonymous. I know one of the coaches personally and I dare ask 'support the crooks' to be man enough to tell him to his face he is a crook! I don't think so. Before judging let all the facts come out - I know what happened (not just spewing at the mouth - I have the facts) and in real terms - they (the coaches)royally got screwed!

At 40 to 60 thousand a year...they were screwing the tax payers. Seems as if they were also double dipping. Got a little greedy.

A teacher with advanced degrees is UNDERPAID at $40,000 a year! If you know of any other profession that requires a minimum of four years of college plus state certification that earns less than this amount please tell us. School systems in other states pay a lot more. I have known football coaches in Texas who did nothing but coach HS football who made over $80K a year. In my way of thinking that is too much but not $60k. I would guess that $60K is on the very top end of TN coaches but I could be wrong. Usually they make about $5 to $6K above their teachers pay for head coaches and about half that for assistant coaches. They should earn the pay just for putting up with all of us writing about them on Topix.

Could you be preceived as a crook and not even know it even with assoication with crooks?

what is the old saying, " Birds of a feather flock together"?

What is a crook? One who knows they are doing wrong or one who is told to do wrong and knowingly does it?
Why are salary people even if getting paid extra for so called extra work even if they do so called extra work?
Does that make any a crook?
Maybe not in their eyes put in the eyes of the public might be a different case?
If you take a job at a certain salary, then are offered extra pay, called something else like supplement pay is that not crooked to take that supplement?
If your boss approved it yet his boss did not who is the crook?
