Most church denominations, up here, don't go door to door in inviting people. The Seventh Day Adventist and Jehovah Witness have. Mormons and Church of Christ by invitation from us.
Churches have traditions. If a Bible Club for different ages would open up in the mid-day hour, on week days, that would be great. Transportation would be better for others like myself to do more outings than the store and doctors.
Many churches use to go door to door but Jehovah's and Mormon's ruin that approach. And that is everywhere not just here. Now no one wants to give you a chance to be heard because they all think you're a witness or Mormon and they see both of those as anti-christ cults. Same for the Seventh Day... cults! Most people that move into the area know how to find a church if they want one. Other Christian churches also have outreach programs, fish frys and more. And all true Christians have no problems talking to others about God. If you have transportation problems get your family members to take you or call any church and ask them if there is someone who could come pick you up. I see lots of churches doing that.

I like living in a small town because it is boring. I don't work here and I sent my children to private school in Williamson County. There is nothing here for intelligent young people. I know my children will never live here again. I don't involve myself with the people here.

We have some good people here, but; There is a huge difference in education and social skills between here and up north or CA/FL. They do not want to challenge themselves nor take advice. When you have the teachers and leadership who attended now teach/lead at the same school system nothing changes. They do what it takes to keep the grades. You can't tell them they have problems. 9th/10th graders in other states compare to most of our seniors.
It would take a decade and a complete makeover in management and teachers before we could even come close. I say this because we have problems and they are doing everything they can to just maintain. Too many local families to please and a sports first program to ever make changes. If you have the same type people in charge don't ever expect improvement. I don't care what scores they boast, scores can be taught, the true test is the average student. It is very sad but true scenario, but then again, we don't have a problem, just ask them.

If I may add, this has nothing to do with our students. They only know what is taught and most never really see the differences until they go off to college. It is a shame how many drop out due to academics after the first year, if they make it that far. It is hard on them and most are under a lot of pressure and are not use to the sink or swim mentality with no family/friend within the school to throw them a life preserver. I only wish the school system would be better. I know they are trying to better it, but they need to step it up because we are still seeing the same ole same ole.

How many real yankees teach in our school system? How many are in leadership roles? Guessing not many.
Looks like they feel local hires and southerners are best at understanding and knowing lil' bubba's needs...and in some cases his family.

The problem with with school system is lack of parents. Both parents work, kids, are alone until they get home. Teachers do the best they can, with what they have. We have some of the most dedicated teachers here.

Yankees were thrown out of the Southern education system during the period of Reconstruction. Many(most) secondary schools, in the South, are diversified, county schools are not. Ask yourself, who receives hiring preference in this city, locals or outsiders.

And it shows. Can't trust the test scores, just look at their end product and don't point at one or two who did well for "themselves".

My wife and I both worked while our children were in school. Neither of our children graduated from here but did well for themselves in a much more challenging/demanding school system outside the state.
Our problem locally is sports ranks higher with the local parents and education plays 2nd fiddle to sports. A brawn over brains thing. But hillary said it best, What does it matter? What level of education do the majority of the locals need to be on welfare and food stamps anyhow? The only thing I see is the majority of them working towards their undeserved disability checks. And ain't that the truth? Do they teach that here in middle school? Our director may disagree but the sports thing still exists. Pay attention and see for yourselves.

I wouldn't make the front page of the paper if I found a cure for cancer. If some dumb nut can run a football they will be worshipped by the sheep. Mostly christians who love their idols (football) more than Jesus.
