Just drive down 1 St. Avenue
Second Avenue
5Th Avenue the Old Connely School just sitting there falling apart.
Most any Street closed to the Square and sees the empty buildings falling apart or empty lots this Town is dead drive around the square look at the last Mayor's still empty building lot several buildings that are dangerous some should be condemned most beyond repair, and need tore down.

Then it seems are the Mayor and City Council spending wasting time complaining about the Grave Yards?

funny you should bring this up, yes lewisburg has turned into a dump, now if you look really close and drive around you will find that no city offical or county for that matter live in these run down areas, in fact they all live in areas nice an clean with nice street light and you can see a police car several times a night riding those hoods.

but the city has no concern for those areas, they dont have to live or work in those areas

lots of folks out of work that could be paid to clean this town, but they would rather spend borrowed money to remodel an old building so they can have a new meeting room, what is wrong with the meeting room at city hall, why spend so much on a run down building while others fall apart

they have hired folks to do the work and did not put it out for bids, is that cause the guy doing the work that the city workers cant do is related to the head of public works, and who is doing the job of the public workers if they are always working on the new meeting room this town needs so bad, the mayor has no real job other then calling a meeting but she is there working with lisa jackson all the time deciding what work is to be done for the day or picking colors ect..... is woods paying for this, she is just a meeting caller why is she involved with this job.

i have called the codes office they claim no permit has been files however if anyone else does this kinda work they must meet codes, but city feels they dont have to

enough is enough can you not see what is going to happen if we dont take control today not next election, i say we gather and take over city hall by force if need be, but for our kids we must stop them to day

GOOD QUESTION
sad

That house on 1st Avenue is a damn disgrace. It sits within view of a city park. That very park is utilized to showcase Lewisburg annually with the Goats Music and More festival. I can think of no other town that would allow something like this house to be visible from a place where the city seeks to bring tourists. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people leave Lewisburg with that rotting dump as their mental image of what this town looks like. How many of these people are influential enough to bring us business and investment? We will never know because they chose not to do business here.

Why don't they let the fire dept train volunteers with the controlled burning of that eyesore in that neighborhood? It looks so dangerous to the neighborhood...

There must be some way for the city to claim abandoned property that is a hazard to the community. If there is no other way, use imminent domain to buy it from the owners and just turn it into a small parking lot for the GMM festival. The manner in which it has been abandoned leads me to think the taxes are probably not being paid, so perhaps the path to local government claiming it lies there. There are a number of possible avenues to explore in ridding Lewisburg of this eyesore, yet no one in government has the desire to get it done. I especially frown upon the city councilman who represents that ward for not getting something done.

the city does not own the red house on 1st ave, the county ownes it so why are they not doing anything. the county and city went to tax action the city did not bid, the county took ownership. so call the county about the house, although the city has made an offer to the county

More Junk Stores More and more Used Furniture Stores the better for us all!
I am all for the more junk stores the better, who in this town but those elected to public office or hired by the Lewisburg City as Department heads taxpayer's paying them over $50 thousand dollars a year plus benefits can afford to buy anything new?

So the More Junk stores, Yard Sales, and Flea Markets the better for the poor and average citizens!

Lewisburg needs to bring the flea Markets back to the public square allowing and encouraging more and more Yard Sales!

Neighbor Hood Yard Sales called Block Parties, serving milk and snacks!

More side of the road Hot dog Stands!

Mayor needs to be working on schools ,county, city, state offices inspection for radon, mold, electrical, etc. She may not can do it but she can make the project beneficial by scdeuling them for it.Get involved with the school, homes, nearest the dump.Do radon tests.Kits are often free and might be free in this case from some company or fire department.Like gun locks. Are we ready for a monstrous tornado and are we ready for a leaking of some toxic waste??Her work should be rewarding working with the schools and making them storm safe for children.
Look good UP to see if power lines are hanging low and if large trees endanger the area they have been growing in.We do need to get very disaster prepared. We might be without power like others.
And how about a REMOTE AREA MEDICAL weekend free to all who come as long as they come..Free every kind of care medically. She could shine.

The city needs to offer the county whatever the county paid, and the county needs to do the right thing and accept the offer. It would make a good parking area once torn down and paved. I still cannot believe the Drivers lived in that place up until just a few years ago.

The city/county tax this property and the people that rent in this area bring entitlement $ into the city. The crew that demolished the pencil factory could clean this area. It is like the "broken window theory" If a person sees a broken window for several weeks and it is not repaired, they conclude that no one cares, no one repaired it, so I can break another one. Like Conelly School? Property owners are not held accountable for repair so others don't care either.

Sunshine, sometimes I wonder what planet you live on! The mayor cannot schedule anything for the schools. The city mayor has nothing to do with the schools. Radon testing would have to be requested by the Board of Education and/or its director. If kits are free, then why don't the homeowners take responsibility for testing their own homes.

How can anyone prepare for a "monstrous tornado"? All you can do is have codes for buildings that could withstand a tornado and who could afford that?

She has no control over leaking of toxic waste! Monitoring of the dump (I assume that is what you are referring to) must be done by the state.

Large trees? What about the property owner deciding if he wants his trees trimmed.

She needs to spend her time working on a money saving budget with the city manager and councilmen. She needs to work with the industrial recruiter on getting new business/industry brought to this town. She needs to work on creating an image of a community that wants to prosper and not an image of a retirement community.
