What an emabarassment. The city manager needs to be fired. SB given the job. The family affair, with an extortion scheme to support it, needs to be destroyed and save the town from their money scheme. Poor town keeps getting taken advantage of. The last city manager was just as guilty, but went to prison. This one deserves to head that way too. Same story. Different means. Robbery. Extortion. Has destroyed any chance for a business to survive.

So city manager and his big sister are running speed trap just like boss hog. Did she get s big fat raise when she went from city judge to city attorney??? He got a big raise too!! Right more tickets! City council gave themselves raise too!
Why even have cities that don't hire its own people or require those who work for the city to live in that city?
What are the residents of Cornersville paying city taxes for the town’s police, to do the State's Troopers Jobs on the I-65 interstate?
When and where was those small town police ever properly trained and certified to operate radar as State Troopers might do on the interstate?
Has anyone checked to see if Cornersville‘s insurance company knows the towns police is set up in such a way to run radar on I-65?
What are the liability risks and dangers involved to other motorists or the police? For does not most State Troopers working in a group or pairs and does Cornersville have enough police to run radar miles from the towns business district itself and yet protect the town of Cornersville itself?

Don’t most people think, are they operating a speed trap preying on unsuspecting out of state travelers? That most likely would mail their tickets in rather than come to court and how easy would it be too never report that income? Just Split that ticket money between who ever?

Do any wonder how many Ride with a Cop program, if any got screwed in that rest area, while the cop car was looking like running radar?

What if every small town along the interstate set radar traps on all the hills and blind curves? How much tax revenue and local business would those towns lose?
Shooting radar out on a flat road or as the trafic goes up hills, then it might not be conceived so much as a radar trap, but to shoot on a down hill just after a blind curve and miles from the town itself don't that sure looks like a radar trap?
For any small town Cops to prey on unsuppecting traveling public, milies from the town itself, that are more likely to mail those tickets in don't that reminds some of Boss Hog and his Gang?

Great idea! had u not rather live in a town that don't need any police, than in a town that has to many police?
Cornersville had just one police for years and good thriving Town many stores and service stations, nice quite town! Now look at it empty buildings, and so many police do they have to resort to running radar traps on the interstate just to pay those?
Can people drive as fast as they want in the Town of Cornersville if the police of Cornersville over on the interstate collecting money with a radar trap?

I am curious as to how many of the posts on here are from ACTUAL residents of Cornersville, and how many are from the lawyers and other "lackies" of the policiticans looking to further themselves as looking like the "heroins" saving the poor unsuspecting people of the "boss-hog" town. Funny how there are not people actually from the town on here posting their opinions. Thats because they see first hand how the town is ran and do not have problems with it. people need to grow up

Look at this audit. The chart for revenue shows that fines and fees are the biggest source of income the city has.\\\\
The next chart, expenses, shows the only expenses they have is government and police. That means they are only policing interstate to pay themselves.
Do away with the police patrol, you won't need that fat court system and city hall salaries, police force is too big, and the property tax won't go up a penny because there are no services provided by Cornersville except government you then won't need. Wake up citizens. Brangenburg (sp?) stole from you and hid it form you. This guy is doing it, telling you about it and you are doing nothing about it. Ask the mayor and manager why there is no business left in the city, why only the salaries of the employees are inflated while taxpayers are depressed. Take action now folks. Make them answer the questions now. Time for an old fashioned town hall meeting and I would ask them to show up and anyone else that might be able to do something about it.
I take it you have never run a business before to believe the ONLY expenses are the government salaries and police salaries. Probably should research what expenses there are in running a town before making comments. BTW....the link you posted isn't working for me.

Check page 13 of the document and see how much they made in Fines fees... almost $300,000 and certainly more than from taxes.

You moron. Have you read one single complaint on here from anyone getting a ticket? Speeding? Cops? I'll save you some reading. No, there is no one complaining because they got a ticket.
The complaint is a city overstepping its boundaries and extorting money from folks to raise their own salaries.
Pay the tickets you want, speed all you want. All we want is for the cops that pull you over to be the ones that have jurisdiction. Not some podunk city court with fat salaries and big government ideas being forced on people passing by miles away.
Pay attention to the point officer.
I got some questions. Why do you care so much and if you really care why not run for mayor or one of the city jobs down there and change it. The mayor got re-elected so evidently the people of Cornersville think he is doing a fine job. People who live here do not want there property taxes to go up. I think its great they have kept taxes low.Sounds like to me a sore loser is on here. Get over it. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

I also saw where Spivey was raising questions about this. He is also against raisng taxes but if he cuts this form of revenue out, the Cornersville tax rate will go up.In a sense it will raise property taxes. How do you plan on having 24/7 police coverage with 1 police officer. Oh yea the sheriff is wanting the city to pay for an SRO in the elementary school at a cost of 70 to 80,000 dollars. You gonna pay for that?

Frankly, I don't care. I was only presenting the info. I used to do my best to avoid having to drive through Cornersville because of the cops pulling you over, following you and such and I never speed. I agree with the above posters, when people avoid a city because they perceive it to be a speed trap, I am sure that effects commerce. Have some locals used it to invent jobs for themselves? Maybe. I know Petersburg is or was the same way and they don't have an interstate, just the hwy. Hell, I got pulled over one time because I didn't "stop" before leaving the store parking lot. But are you honestly saying you don't care if you get busted in a speed trap and fork over a couple hundred dollars? Sure, do the speed limit, but everyone knows how easy it is while traveling the interstates to bump it up without giving it much notice. I say unless it is excessive or faster than the natural movement of traffic, let 'em go. THP uses that same thought process.

Do any of those speed traps fines go toward operating Cornersville or go to the court and police? Cornersville for years had just one police and the local business thrived, several service stations, local owned stores, Cornersville was a boom town!
Now look at it empty building and so many police do they seem to have to resort to running radar on I-65? When you hear people say they avoid Cornersville because it runs speed traps and the way the town is operated well does it sure looks like it from the looks of the town?
As for the SRO well let the county pay, for don't we all pay county taxes, are those not County Schools, why would Cornersville even consider paying for their own SRO?
Besides that if Cornersville's got police enough to run radar on the interstate, let one of those be the SRO and traffic director in the schools zones also?
Who would want to live in a town that some see are using their cops as Hi-Way Robbers preying on unsuspecting tourists, people, families traveling the interstate, milieus from the town of Cornersville itself?

As of now the county sheriff has asked the city to pay for SRO. It is a good thing when you bring in more money than goes out. Then you have a surplus. Then you can talk about cutting taxes. 24/7 coverage for police in Cornersville is hard to do with 1 police officer unless you want to volunteer to do it. As for people avoiding Cornersville, maybe they want you to avoid it. Ever think of that?

Did Cornersville had one police officer for years and only a volunteer fire department, lots of local business, service stations, grocery stores, beauty shops, good places to eat, most anything people wanted? Really nice looking growing Country Town!
Low City taxes, people wanted to move and live in Cornersville.
When did Cornersville got more police did the crime rate go up, the fire hall burned, the bank got robbed, the city manager went to jail, now Cornersville got more and more police and now does it look like to some using those extra police to stop, rob unsupecting people traveling with their families on the interstate milies from the town its self? Does it remind some of Boss Hog and his gang?

The only thing lost was all the revenue from a thriving economy. Cornersville can't even support a mower shop. No business can thrive there because no one wants to go there. Property tax won't go up if they don't have such a fat city hall with Barney and friends hanging out. The city provides no service at all. NONE. There is no water, fire, ambulance, garbage or anything else provided by the city. The juvenile WHAAAA you posted is how much the business owners are crying because you are killing their business.

The discussion of high taxes are common on this forum. I dare not ask a question because the topix policeman will call me stupid so here is how I see it.
County taxes are high because:

1. Three county supported school systems.
2. City and county mayors.

When sizable companies look at location sites they definitely do their homework, climate is a given, people are not! They look closely at school systems, housing, shopping, social life and safety, not specifically in that order.
