<quoted text>As usual you want to only report part of any story. Which makes anything you post suspect.
Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee said Monday that she voted against the Violence Against Women Act because it protected “other different groups.”
During an appearance on MSNBC, Blackburn said the Violence Against Women Act had become “diluted” and “unfocused” due to new provisions added to the bill.
“I didn’t like the way it was expanded to include other different groups,” she explained.“What you need is something that is focused specifically to help these shelters and to help our law enforcement, who is trying to work with the crimes that have been committed against women and helping them to stand up.”
Though Blackburn supported House versions of the Violence Against Women Act, she voted against the more inclusive Senate version.
The Senate’s version of the Violence Against Women Act included new protections for Native Americans, LGBT individuals, and undocumented immigrants.
In particular, it allowed tribal courts to prosecute non-tribal individuals accused of domestic and sexual crimes that occurred on tribal land, removed barriers that prevented LGBT victims from accessing services, and provided additional temporary visas to abused undocumented immigrations.
The legislation was originally enacted in 1994 and easily renewed with bipartisan support twice since. But opposition to the new protections caused the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act to die in the Republican-led House last year.
Facing increasing pressure, the House approved the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act by a 286-138 vote last month.

What I "reported" was which Republicans in our state voted against the bill, and that the "savior" of your party voted against it as well. You seem to think these votes as some kind of victory for your side...I see them as more evidence that the gender gap will not narrow, and may indeed widen before 2016. This is fine with me ! I hope representatives like Blackburn and Senators like Rubio continue to vote as they did this time....especially since the legislation passed without their support.
I am not a member of any of the classes that this bill (now law) protects, but I know a losing political issue when I see one !

One thing Obama will go down in history for. He has to be the only President that spent both terms campaigning. He is still in campaign mode. Just keep those votes (like the one I posted about yesterday) coming and we might just get to see how many seats flip in 2014 !
The party that thinks taking billions of dollars in government spending out of a weak economy is a cure for our unemployment problem, will lose support with each layoff triggered by their austerity policies. Keep up the good work guys...you create more Democrats every day....too bad that comes with a huge cost to real people.

I think your entire premise is stupid! By the dictate of your implied principle, legislators should only navigate the stormy seas of culturism, special interest pressure point and the unprincipled gamesmanship of winning elections. This is corruption, defined!

Do you actually believe law-makers should abandon their charge to serve only the whoredoms of choosing the easy or popular path? If these men and women chose such lawless abandon to the extent you're intimating...all would be for nought!

You go out of your way to "MOCK" the figures of dissent in this initiative. I say, to "HELL" with serving the preponderence of "wrong-doing," especially when an ubiquitous social appetite insinuates itself upon all that is good, and with the very seductions you shamefully offer here!

The most honorable men and women who supported this initiative (Violence against women act) are ones who eventually voted against it, not because of the aid it provided to women, but because it became bastardized by the (L.G.B.T) Organization -(Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Trans-Gender) and other homosexual organizations.

The Republicans wanted benefits directed to "ALL" women. The (L.G.B.T.) and other homosexual groups demanded the language be changed to specify eligibility to an enumeration of Gender specific and sexual orientation specific sub-groups. Everyone knew this was being turned into a divisive food fight by the President!

Again, our President leaped at the opportunity to pretend the opposition to "portions" of this bill "HATED" women. This is more of the President's class warfare, and he isn't done yet!

The President decided to "pander" to the (L.G.B.T.) and other homosexual groups for political favor and assured political financing! That's what this is all about!

The democrats didn't want people to know another reason opposition to the bill existed. The act called for services rendered to native American women. It also contained provisions for criminal defendants (citizens arrested for crimes) to be prosectuted in (TRIBAL COURTS) if an alleged sexual assult occurs within the boundaries of (SOVEREIGN TRIBAL LANDS)! In effect, this will be tantamount to American citizens being surrendered over to a foreign country for prosecution. There are great differences in (TRIBAL LAW COURTS) and the United States Judiciary.

I'm glad these dissenting law-makers had not only the intelligence to ennunciate these snares, but also the necessary courage to champion the truth rather than to whore-out for election prospects. These votes of dissent were indeed..a victory for character and doing the right thing!

For the TEApublicans that love to wave the Constitution around when it's to their advantage...if you truly believed in the U.S. Constitution, you would also believe in Equal Rights For ALL because that's what the U.S. Constitution guarantees to ALL of us!

And Marsh Blackburn is the BIGGEST JOKE ever played on the State of TN. and that's saying alot because we've got A LOT of Politicians in Public Office that are a JOKE, in this State, both Federal, State, and Local!

What was the purpose of the legislation? Why do we have special protections for different classes? If I rob from a person and get caught, there are consequences. If I rob from a gay person or a woman, I get "special" consequences? Why is that?

Why is your party so consumed by what you call "classes"?

At what point do we admit that the over-spending policies didn't work? 20 Trillion? 40 trillion.

That's YOUR TEApublican Party, NOT the Democrats, and you very well know it! So, don't even try that ole Crap of changing FACTS to suit your purpose! THAT BS doesn't work anymore and the Voters proved that to you in the last Presidential Election!

Why do the TEApublicans just "KEEP DIGGING"?!?! But, I'll gladly keep handing them more shovels, regardless of why they keep doing it! The sooner they dig themselves into obscurity, the better!

Legislators can't do their job and the job of an unbiased media as well. I personally watched the floor fights on multiple c-span feeds over every aspect of this legislation! Do "YOU" believe the media fairly represents what happens in congress everyday"? I think not! I'll post the following post for you again, It answers the questions.

"This is wilfull misrepresentation here, or you are grieviously uninformed on the matter!

Nearly "ALL" Republicans supported this idea brought forth by Representative Adams. Congressman Allen West, an ally of the sponsor, was also on board with this initiative.

The original framework provided protections for "ALL" victims, regardless of gender identity bias or sexual orientation! Democrate soon decided to wage another false arument and once again...moved the goal-posts!

The necessary dissent was provided by "democrats" seeking to advance more unneccessary conflict, claiming it was necessary to identify (L.G.B.T.- Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Trans-Gender) persons by "gender identification" or "gender orientation" specificity in the bill. This, of course was not necessary.

As you can see, this was nothing more than additional political pandering (SURPRISE!) to these organizations in order to build politial favor and assured political financing!

You SHOULD know that the republicans even produced a bill striking the unneccessary language, because the whole idea was to provide services and potection for "ALL" victims to begin with, irrespective of gender specificity or sexual orientation.(What a good idea!)

The "EVIL" republicans you fear countered the portion of the bill dealing with surrendering American citizens over to "TRIBAL COURTS" for "PROSECUTION" when native American women are assaulted on reservations, or within "tribal law" geographical boundaries.

As you know...maybe you don't, tribal law courts are different from the American Judiciary. This brought forward legal and constitutional complications. Thank God there are some people "AWAKE" in Congress who don't jump through their ass at every piece of "politically loaded" junk legislation designed to incite unneccessary war!

The republican objections to specific portions of this bill had nothing to do with "exclusion" of "ANYONE" as a recipient of services. It further has nothing to do with hating women or anyone else. You have "hook-line& sinkered" yet another page in Odrama's class-warfare ambitions for America. Congratulations!"

What is it about getting the economy bak on track and getting People back to work and the Deficit will drop at an astounding rate, do you not understand??? It's common sense, even if you have never seen it happen before in the Country, LIKE IT HAS MANY TIMES BEFORE, while you had your head stuck up your Azz and couldn't see beyond your own Little Limited World!
Oh, I forgot...you TEApublicans don't have any COMMON SENSE! Birth Defect, you were born without the ability to think for yourselves! That's why you rely on Fox Fake News to tell you what to think...and you don't have the "Common Sense" to know they're lying to you! You're just screwed up all the way around, aren't you? I hate it! Glad it's your Problem and not mine, as much as you want to try and make it mine and everybody else's!

Why is your party so consumed by what you call "classes"?
Why are there special protections for certain classes ? A quick look back at history would provide the answer. Republicans had a proud heritage of protecting certain classes at a time when Democrats were the party that barred the door to the voting booth and the school house, and Republicans proudly stood with those in the SUPPOSEDLY "separate but equal" class, helping to create "special protections" because there were special needs for them. The entire equasion has been turned on it's head as that bunch of former Democrats migrated to the "new" Republican Party.
If there is no change in the Republican policy platform, they are destined to become a minority party of the old south and a shrinking segment of the mid-west. These "new" Republicans would fit right in with the Dixiecrats of old....and we all know where that party ended up. By all means...stay on that path, hold the line, don't change to reflect a new reality, electoral and otherwise....it's your party !
