<quoted text> I never said anyone should be penalized for anything. I listed things such as roads and highways, education, TVA electrcity, the postal service, the internet,a stable banking sysyem etc. without which I could not conduct business as I now do...or not at all. I never said you and I didn't help pay for them, but you or I could not create them ourselves, and some would never show a profit if they were done by a private entity, but without them my business as I know, it COULD not exist.
The area where I live would have never gotten electricity if not for the REA, because the long lines and few customers made it a losing proposition for for profit electricity providers.
We see something else differently. I do not "fund" unemployment, healthcare,Medicare and Social Security for those who work for me, they do. They EARN those things by the work they do for me and the profit they help me to make...
The more you write, the more I get the feeling you are not a business owner. If you are indeed a business owner, then you do indeed help fund unemployment, medicare and social security. You are taxed for unemployment benefits based on your unemployment multiplier which is assigned to you. The tax you are liable for is called SUTA and FUTA. You fund this, not the employees. Healthcare may or may not be funded by your business, but in my business, I pay 60% of all healthcare benefits for my employees including dental and vision. Medicare and Social Security is also partly funded by you along with the employees. I simply call this payroll tax but they have their own acronym. In most businesses, employees have to earn what I am paying them in addition to the other funding I am required to pay for them. I pay my employees for their effort at helping make my company a profit. If they do a good job and perform, then they have earned their pay and get the right to keep their job. Unemployment, Medicare, Workman's Comp are all things required of me to pay the government simply for having employees. In addition to these taxes, I also pay property tax, franchise and use tax, state and federal corporate tax and excise tax. And again, this is in addition to the health, disability, life insurance, 401K matching and other benefits I provide on my own. If the government wants more taxes from me, then some of the benefits I provide on my own will decrease. Or I could simply raise prices, but in this economy, that is the kiss of death and would cost some employees their jobs.

I realize keeping good employees is the key to success and I do what I can to do just that. However, I do this in spite of the government, not because of it. Like I said earlier, some, not all, posters on this thread demonize businesses. However, when the government gets involved, it usually involves some sort of tax that either makes prices go higher or takes away benefits from employees. And the government's intervention is supposedly aimed at helping employees or those less well off. However, the end result is that their intervention actually hurts those they say they are trying to help.

I do disagree with your opinion, but I do respect you for having one. Standing up for something is a whole lot better than standing up for nothing.

fortunately when they do get caught, the gop gets rids of them. But when the dem/libs get caught (i.e. clinton, etc)its a horse of a different color. You don't get rid of them , you just move them to another position. If you open your eyes long enough it is actually happening today in the Obama administration.

They are so much cheaper than American blood. Oh yeah I forgot we still have other Americans that are invested in old military technology.
Some here should follow this entire string of comments on the thread. A comment was posted about Republicans bombing the sh!t out of people. I responded with Obama flying drones at them. My point, that went over so many heads here, is that both parties are doing it. Instead of admitting that Obama bombs people too they had to turn it to "would you rather have our boys and girls in harms way?" BTW they are Men and women not boys and girls. Last I heard we only allow adults to enlist. Typical Liberal, change the subject instead of admitting someone else is right too.

Personally, I think that Bush 1 did the right thing in Desert Storm. We fought that primarily with air power. The troops on the ground were a lot less in harms way than in other wars. But if you drop bombs or fly drones at them you still have the people who scream about collateral damage(foreign innocents dying). It can't be both ways. Air wars keep our troops safer but have increased collateral damage. Ground wars enable you to be more selective of targets and keep collateral damage down but increases the risk to our troops. Take your pick.

Obama who is a good orator, dropped the ball with the WAY he said this but, the premise of his statement is true.
You own your own business as I do.
Did you educate your employees from kindergarten to grade 12 ? No it was the collective tax dollars of all of us that provided you with employees that graduated high school.
Did you build the roads that deliver the goods you use/sell in your business and your employees use to get to and from work ? No, that was the collective tax dollars of all of us that provided those.
Do you use the internet to advertise your business or to access products/ services ? Did you build that yourself ?
Your business is serviced by electricity do you generate your own or are you using TVA's ?.....
Do you use the banking system ?
How about police protection ?
Do you use the postal service to mail invoices, mail product, advertise, receive payments ?
I could go on and on and on.....but without all of the above and more, I would not be in business. Would you ?
All of these things you mention are available to everyone, but it is the person who risks everything that they and their family have to start a business that built that business. Everyone did not take the risk. The risk taker built his business, not the Government.

<quoted text> You seem to have forgotten how government worked until recent history. Go back to the Reagan election. His policies were polar opposites of the Democrats in congress, but based on the election of Reagan, they gave him his tax cuts, his HUGE military budget increases, his cuts to the social safety net, his increase in the Social Security retirement age, his deficit spending...should I go on ?
They did not block his initiatives using their majority status to keep his agenda from being voted on and they did not use endless filibusters which require a super majority to overcome.
Obama's agenda which is decidedly to the right of Nixon's was portrayed as a leftist, and blocked using every trick and procedural roadblock available to Republicans, even though they controlled in the last two years, only the lower chamber of congress.
It would do members of both parties good to realize that the pendulum swings both ways and government can not function without reasonable compromise by reasonable members of both parties. The tea party members did not go to Washington to operate government...they went there to destroy it.
Who blocked Obama's 2nd budget proposal in 2010 when Democrats controlled both houses? Who blocked Obama's last budget proposal that got zero votes in the house and the Democratic Senate.(97-0 and 414-0) This president cannot even bring his own party together to back him. The Democratic Senate has not passed an Obama budget proposal in 3 years. But blame it on the Tea Party, not the President. Or should I say wannabe dictator?

OH, Contrair : The first two years you dem/libs had both houses with a filibuster proof majority and you did nothing except ram Obama Care down our throats. Quit blaming someone else for your screwups. Thats the problem and Obama stated it yesterday by saying something like: Our responsibility is not individual but collectively. Yep, when you dem/libs screw-up it is everybody's (that is not a dem/lib)fault. Now the last two years you had Dirty Harry in the Senate who would let no bill up for vote. It was only his vote that counted. No budget in 3 years and the one Obama submitted was rejected by both parties unanimously. I hope you shoot that single shot better that you shoot you mouth off. Its getting pitiful
And don't forget that, even then, the Democrats waited until a Lame-duck session of Congress to pass Obamacare, AFTER they realized that they had lost the house in the 2010 elections. I essence, they did it against the will of the people who had just voted for change.

As time goes on and military technology is such that we can now take out our enemy from far away.
Yes we will always have collateral damage, but boots on the ground will always finish the job, but at the same time will stir up trouble, with the locals.
Let's not forget who we are fightning over there, for the most part they are a very simple people, but not all. There will always be those that will take the killing to us directly.......be ready for it and don't be surprised when it happens. One of my biggest worry's is a cyber attack/attacks, no blood just a complete collaspe of our way of life.
But again we are moving on with different types of attacks....call it military or whatever.
As a Liberal, I hope I did not change the subject, if I did just let me know and we can discuss these issues one at a time. As a Liberal I am not always right and I do like to hear from Conservatives about these issues, as they are not always wrong.

OA, when I was in Nam I was 21/22, and as a male I was still thinking like a boy with the body of a man.
You see males develop their "frontal lobes" the discision part of the brain, at about 23......and this is a good reason to use young males, as they have the body of a man but the brain of a kid.
But it's really a non-issue to me, but I know some on this forum will make it an issue.
