Here we are again up in the morning and hoping that Marshall County Schools will have sense enough to at least go in two hours late. Why do our kids and teachers put in all the extra time of building up weather days if the director is not going to use any of them? A week ago we had ice on roads in the north end of the county and school was on time. Today we are going to put bus loads of kids and almost 1000 teenage drivers on the roads in a severe thunderstorm. Will it take burying kids due to a senseless wreck to get Jackie to use an hour or two?

Judging by past actions, do you really think that would matter to her? What would make you think she has any of the children's safety as her priority?

When I was their age we walked to school in the deep snow up hills both ways. Big whoop. The world if full sissies anymore, I declare!

When you went to school, the roads probably had 1/2 the traffic on them that they do presently. Crashes are a lot more frequent now than they were in years past due to increased congestion on the roads, and hazardous conditions only make the situation worse.

Also, the kids and the teachers have put in the extra time already. What is the point of putting in the extra time for situations like this morning if Jackie is going to risk their lives anyway?

Or maybe she's trying to teach them that life doesn't stop because of the weather. How pissed would you be if you went to walmart and there was a note on the door that said, "opening two hours late due to rain"? If it's too dangerous for you to send/bring your kids to school, keep them home. Ultimate responsibility lies with you.

Truth is, they watch the weather too. They get reports and they do care. Based on what was being reported, they chose to open on time. Their job is to take every available day to teach. Was there a problem? No.

There is this so-called congested traffic EVERY day, not just on rainy days. What a stupid comment/excuse.
What happens when they are at school and it rains? Oh dear! Don't let them go home, they might get in a wreck.

And then there are the parents with no time allowed off from work. It is hard on them to quickly secure a safe place when they call a weather day off, and where do all those kids go? They don't stay home, parents have to drive them to day cares or relatives or friends and even worse, old grandmas and grandpas have to get out on the road, making it all that much more dangerous! It is you imbeciles who don't think who are endangering the kids.

You haters are the most pathetic people I've ever witnessed! This is why our world is so screwed up!

You are missing the point. The teachers and students are putting in extra time just for the purpose of being able to avoid risky situations. If they are all going to be exposed to the risks anyway, why are we having everyone put in 30 minutes extra at school each day? Do you think teachers are working all of this extra time just so they can be robbed of it? Are the kids staying longer than is necessary because they love school? Hell no! They are all putting in more time than is needed so they can stay safe when conditions are hazardous. If the decision makers insist on risking everyone's safety, then let's start turning school out 30 minutes early and be fair to the kids and teachers. Or would that piss off Barbara Kennedy too much?

Fret not, for they will cancel school for 3 flurries a' fly'n. You all can THEN bitch and complain that they call off school for the stupidest of reasons. Because lets face it, when it comes to your precious little rugrats, nothing (and I do mean NOTHING at all) is good enough or right.

Wtf??? Are you serious? Are you even listening to yourself? You act as if school is a job that you only have to put x amount of hours into it. It is not a job, it is their future!! It is like investing into their adult lives and your like, what the hell, why should they be there learning? There is not enough time NOW to learn all they need to know and you want to cut more out!

Teachers are not there because it is a 9-5 job, they are there because they love to bestow their knowledge on to others. Yes, it is even better when they get paid what they are worth, but you act as if they are bankers or labors only their to put in their time and get a pay check. WTF kind of moron are you????

You are the reason we have the high school drop outs we have. You have your whole priorities bass akwards!! We are so behind the rest of the world and you are worried about a fricken little stormy day. Hell, when I was in 4th grade the sky went black and when it was done, we went back to learning math, English and reading.

Come on! Let's make our kids dumber than their parents!!! You stupid dumb sh!t!!! You deserve stupid morons for children!!

Actually, you are the stupid dumb sh!t. Kids in America are already among the top in terms of number of hours spent in school. Some of the top performing countries actually spend much less time incarcerating children in school houses. Yet you think our kids should spend more time in school? The answer is not quantity of hours, it is quality of hours.

what are the chances

I personally think the chances of a student getting hurt on a bus or a car driven by a teenager with some ice or snow on the road is a much more logical danger than that same child being shot by an intruder in the school(percentages). If the schools have days made up, why take that chance. Give both the students and the teachers a day off and it want hurt this school system one bit. Children's safety should be our main concern rather that one day's worth of education.

Whoa! We have more common ground than you think. The subject of this thread was bringing kids in on a rainy day. Yes! Hell yes we are behind the eight ball in quality!! You won't get an argument out of me on that, but with lack of that around here they need as much time in there as possible! If we had top quality teachers and top quality schools, they could spend less time in class and more time in life!

And we had neither during the day we speak of. I've lived here many years including times we've had several inches of snow and I never missed worked and never had an accident. Yes, we need to be mindful of times when dirt roads can ice up much faster than other roads, which is not good for buses, but that was not the issue at this time.

Here is your sign. Your post indicates your viewing choices when it comes to news reporting. You are probably a progressive liberal democrat who expects the government to take care of you instead of being able to think for yourself.

I bet you voted for Obama.
