Just saw that Foodlion will be closing here and in multiple other locations. That really stinks for the people working there but I am not surprised, only that it didn't happen sooner.

This is not a reflection on Lewisburg though. They closed the one in Franklin acouple of years ago and both in th Boro are closing so I would say it's more about Food Lion and a quality of product and consumer opinion.

Another source confirming it: http://www.newschannel5.com/story/16503837/ni...

Too bad really, I always went there for the discounted meats. This is one less option we will have. Now we are down to Kroger, Walmart, and a handful of mom 'n pops.

It may not be a reflection on Lewisburg, but Franklin and Murfreesboro can afford to lose their stores. Lewisburg cannot. There are many other stores to choose from in those towns. Sad.

How very sad for all the empolyee's. The article says they will close up to 30 days. I am sure the employee's were just told either last night or today about the store closing here. I sure hope they give the employee's time to absorb this info and start to look for work. Sure hope it isn't like when Bi-Lo closed. They only received 4 day notice.

113 stores closing and I am sure they can not all close on the 30 day mark.

As for the store/company. They got what was coming. They got greedy and it killed their business. Food Lion use to have great meat sales along with other good sale items, but for the last couple years, the sales have been higher priced than going to Wally World or Kroger. I quit shopping there awhile back due to this. They also started to do what Bi-Lo did... the Buy one get one free and not putting a price in the add. I was not going to waste my gas to see what the price was (which lately was too high even with the b.o.g.o sale.)

Sad to lose another business though, but that parking lot is always empty lately.

I have shopped at kroger for years and it seems that since they put in gas service, their prices have steadily increased.

I have been shopping at Food Lion for years. All of the employees have been super nice to me. There products are 10x better than Krogers and Walmart. They are never out of date-like they are at those two places. The prices are a little cheaper or the same-but better quality-especially the produce and meats. One thing for sure, they don't move things around every week so you can't find it. Krogers and Walmart keep moving things around so you have to spend more time in there to shop to look for what you want. I for one will miss Food Lion and all of the employees. Look for Kroger prices to really go up now.

Since Foodline is closing and you want to find some of the best bargins, I shop at Save-A-Lot and Dollar General Market. I too find the prices at Krogers and Wal-Mart a little high. Wish we had a Publix like in M'Boro and Franklin.

I disagree with you about Krogers. I download digital coupons to my Kroger card from their website and save a ton of money. I agree that Dollar General Market has good food prices but they are higher on things like laundry detergent and trash bags also their selection is lacking. I never shopped at Food Lion because their prices were too high. Maybe if they lowered the prices a little and kept a cleaner store more people would shop there. Every time I went in there the store was pretty much empty and their were flies flying around the deli/bakery area. But I do wonder what they will be doing with their inventory. THere are a few items I would go in there to buy if they were discounted like baby items and household goods

Even if you use coupons at Kroger, you will spend a lot more for the same item than you would spend at Walmart without those coupons.

Check it out for yourself. Select a few items and compare prices for yourself.

I already have and was surprised at the result.

Old Timer is right about Krogerís prices. I often catch them raising the prices on items when a coupon drops and then lowering it again later.

Case in point: Planterís peanut butter, which I priced at Kroger this week for $3.69 a jar.

There happens to be an Internet coupon out for $1.50 off 2 jars.

Dollar General has that same size Planterís jar for $2.00 - and they accept that Internet coupon. I got 2 jars of peanut butter at DG for less than the price I would have paid for 1 at Kroger.

Now, if you stick with the Kroger private label brand, you can usually beat any name brand + coupon price. And I like most of their private label products, so I do shop there a lot.
