Doesn't a person who adopts a rescue dog have ANY input into caring for them!!!! Read the BOOKS, get a trainer, call the Dog Whisperer!!~@& Otherwise you have hurt the dog by NOT knowing how to care for him.

While I agree with you on most points, it sounds like the person is doing that by asking here.
I doubt they're hurting the dog, just probably lost some valuable training time.
And they need a behaviorist. If the dog's fears are such that they're concerned about biting- training will just be the starting point.
Think of training as education. It does not make up for a person who needs a doctor (psychologist when talking about fears/emotions). Their Vet should be able to suggest someone.
I,m writing from experience, one of my Rtrvrs has fear issues.
