Verbal footwork in accident reports often misconstrues the word "merging" when "abruptly cut in front of" correctly assess's what really happened. "Move over sucka, I gets off at this exit and I not be drivin' six more miles to the next exit1"

You got that right. Some people think they have the right of way when they want to cut in front of you. The ones I love are the idiots that zip past you and immediately cut in front of you to exit.

Ten bucks says the 'merging' accident caused another person to swerve into the left lane, causing the second pileup. My guess is she got to the end of the ramp and stopped, like some idiots do, then pulled into a travel lane at 15 mph. They call it an 'acceleration ramp' for a reason folks!

YDR Watcher...I think the opposite happened. Instead of merging and "yielding" when merging (which is what the sign says), the person probably just flew on out onto the highway expecting everyone to get out of their way. The exit ramps on 83 in York are VERY short and do not allow you to merge safely. Sometimse you DO have to stop to avoid causing an accident...which this person clearly did NOT do. On top of that, you have drivers on 83 who tail gate so they do not have room to slow down to avoid hitting the car in front of them. They are at fault too.

York County's merging skills are just plain atrocious. Here are some helpful tips from a former Marylander.

Off-ramp
1. get in the right lane ahead of time
2. don't tailgate (moron)
3. don't stop
4. Adjust your freaking speed so that you can merge into traffic! The person in the right lane is not obligated to do ANYTHING. THEY have the right of way. YOU are supposed to yield.

On-ramp
It's the same thing!
