One fire company with only one rescue/engine combo and one tanker/pumper cannot efficiently serve over 30 square miles. They are a volunteer department. Like all others, they do fail calls, or respond with light crew (driver and one firefighter or driver only). For a "Township" fire department to be effective there needs to be a station at both ends of the township, not one in the middle with only 2 pieces of apparatus. The residents need to know that there is sufficient apparatus to respond with what is currently protecting the township. Goldsboro has 2 engines and a tanker, York Haven has 2 engines and a tanker, Lewisberry has an engine, attack and brush and Newberry has a tanker, brush and rescue/engine. That's almost as much apparatus as York and Harrisburg have front line combined for almost 100,000 people.

The Newberry twp fire depatment is actually chartered as the newberrytown fire department.

There is 4 newberry township fire departments in newberry township,(newberrytown, goldsboro, york haven, Lewisberry)and it has been this way for over the 30 years I have lived in this township. All 4 depatment sit in very good locations to serve the township.

Newberry township only gives each dept $12,500 a year out of general fund and splits the firemans relief by call volume in the township.

Goldsboro and york haven are in great financial shape according to their records, Lewisberry has financial issues but proved that all creditors were paid and are no longer in the hole, Newberrytown is rumored to be $200,000.00 in the hole but failed to bring the proper paperwork to the township meeting to prove any different.

I belive the right decision was made for township residents to recind this ruling. All the township fire departments NEED this financial support from the township and to remove this funding suddenly would cause many issues for these departments.

In ending I wish all the departments would start working together to try to curb all the bickering and tattle tailing to the township supervisors when something does not go there way and all 4 are at fault of that.

It is a shame that the Township Supervisors have not been made aware of that yet Scooter. That news is all around york county but the Township fails to recognize it they will soon enough they give the Ambulance there $139000.00 a year, at least that was what there budget for 2010 said.

Denny, Isn't that just amazing that Newberrytown Fire Co. did not bring any financials? All the others did and appear to be sitting just well. This was another snowball effect to put it to the Twp. Supervisors make us the Township Dept. Then a short couple months later break the news to them they are broke and the Twp. Supervisors will need to come up with the bucks to bail them out. I really am glad the Supervisors reversed there decision now They NEED TO LOOK AT THERE financials and see what is really going on behind close doors at Newberrytown Fire CO.
