We can all agree that this was a very unfortunate outcome. You need not shoot the messenger, in this case, me, by stating the current policy of the CPD. If CPD was in a high-speed pursuit with a suspect, it was for a very good reason. CPD will pursue suspects if they feel that that person can't get away due to serious harm that the person has already caused or will about to cause. The fact that there was an tragic accident was not due to the hands of the officer, or by me revealing their pursuit policy, but by the suspect. Period. They put themselves in that situation - first off they grabbed the attention of the police - by a call for service, a traffic infraction, whatever. Then that person choose to not obey commands before a pursuit even started. Then the police chose to pull the person over or engage in a pursuit because of the situation or the outcome of his or her actions. Those actions continued when that person did not yield to the officer. A horrific accident then ended the pursuit; the blood being on the suspect's hands alone.
And don't worry about me getting over myself - we are all entitled to our own opinions. This is the internet after all.
No it's not. The officers chose to continue the pursuit for several miles throughout the city. Had they stepped back and allowed the chopper to pursue, the outcome would've been different. It's all good though, my son was sacrificed in a pursuit to catch a suspect who had looked suspicious then fled. Certain circumstances call for certain measures and this wasn't one. Lives in exchange for a small time criminal is not worth it.

Only $80,000.00 bond?? He should be held on a much, much higher bond than that. Just look at all the charges against this nasty, worthless piece of humanity>

I heard this whole chase on my scanner, the chopper was with this clown the whole time he was in Columbus. So having the ground pursuit back off was no big deal, they had him in sight for the entire chase. As far as the speed of the chase is concerned, the chopper pilot was clocking this guy at 130-140 mph! It is a wonder no one was killed!
That's what I was wondering... are the police driving 130, or was the guy going 130 with a futile effort to outrun a chopper? I think that in these situations, when the chopper arrives, the cruisers should back off, as it sounds from your post.

I used to have a shadow... piece of junk was unstable at 65. I would never drive higher than that.

Shut up. I buried my second born son because a suspect in a high speed chase with CPD hit me head on. And who cares about them running lights and sirens...I'd rather them not scare of the criminal so they can catch the punk without putting others at risk. Get over yourself since you think you could do a better job.
If that's true I'm sorry for your loss, but how will they catch anyone without risk to (1) Themselves, or unfortunately (2) others? We didn't put these criminals up to running from the police, nor did we put them up to doing the crimes. Don't blame the police for the chase when the criminal ran...unless the police were the only ones with money for a lawsuit.

Here's the thing. To pursue or run lights and sirens in general, law enforcement must proceed with due regard to public safety. Therefore, when the suspect blows a light at 90 mph, the police must slow to enter the intersection. Therefore, simple mathematics suggests that you must run higher speeds than 90 to catch back up. I'm sure the police were at 120 at points.

Oh, and I saw the car. No way it went above 90 and it wasn't a turbo car.

I blame both and always will. Most criminals have mental conditions and chasing them through the city at high speeds is a terrible decision to run with. I will never support it, unless they are trying to save lives. In my case and this, they weren't

Classic statement as always "he would never do something like that". "They be good people". Whatever.
Re-read my post - dummie. I NEVER said he wouldn't do anything like that. I said his family is a good family. This boy was not raised this way. He obviously has some serious problems, but people need to leave his family out of it.

typical...the white suspect who led police on a high speed chase throughout the city, gets to sit in the back seat of a cruiser and smoke a cigarette.
