Brookhaven officials: Nassau cop is a slumlord

A veteran Nassau County detective has been charged with a host of housing violations in Brookhaven, where town officials say he has been intimidating tenants and operating as a slumlord.

These people are a plague on society along with the ones who allow them to get away with this. Most of the slumhouses are owned by people who do not live in the area and they usual own more than one. It is a business to them and they are operating a boarding house in a residential area. This is where the elected official come in who have been looking the other way on these operations. Now the situation is so out of control and many of our once nice neighborhoods have been turned into ghettos. Huntington Station is a perfect example of this along with Brentwood, Farmingville and Mastic-Shirley.

So now they are trying to put a bandaid on the situation and close down a few of the house to give themselves a pat on the back. Why haven't they passed laws to not allow rentals if the owner is not on the property. Renting out a house should not be allowed if the owner lives elsewhere.
