I agree user, there is just so much of this that does not make sense to anyone other than those who were involved. The other part is they took it to a Lubbock Judge, and the media was at the Sheriff's office either just before or within minutes of Kinney being dismissed. Want to guess how that happened? A new sheriff was already in place, and then Scarbrough from Lubbock comes next. It was all way to quick and based on what?

Well, you can read the petition for yourself. It states the evidence that was used to fulfill the requirements of the law to issue a temporary restraining order to remove Kinney. KINNEY's lawyer asked for a continuance of the initial hearing.

This means that the hearing that could have cleared Kinney and restored him to office was postponed by KINNEY's lawyer, not Mr. Dennis.

If Kinney is permanently removed, there will be a special election to vote for a new sheriff. It's all totally above board, nothing sneaky or backhanded whatsoever.

Just because there was no one with the 'nads to do this before Dennis, doesn't mean it shouldn't have been done.

Who was the CA before Dennis? I'm not making a point or being cute, I actually don't know. I don't mind asking for the proper facts when I don't know them.:)

So many people say this has been going on for years and years. It would have saved Hockley County a lot of money and embarrassment if someone had stepped up before this big mess happened.

Pat Phelan was the County Attorney prior to Dennis. Wonder why he wasn't the one signing papers?

And what reason was the continuance asked for?

Anyway, nothing that was alleged had anything to do with anything imminent. It wasn't as though he was stealing money or shredding files, why not set a hearing and have both sides ready? Why not be out in the open, why not tell the whole community you want your buddy appointed sheriff without having to go thru an election like Dennis almost lost?

Why not Just The Facts? How far back would you have wanted people to go? And then to whom would you take it to that might not have brought it right back to your door step and bit you right in the butt. I have to say this and then I am off of here, "If all of this was such common knowledge in Levelland was it only the citizens who heard it, or did Mr. Dennis and his investigator do what many did and just turned a deaf ear until the purpose suited them for something much bigger, like Sheriff, or District Attorney and again the timing of it all just STINKS!"

The continuance was asked for by Kinney's attorney. I would assume it was to give them more time to prepare.

As for the timing, how much worse would you like for things to become before steps were taken?

If this restraining order against Kinney is unfounded, and he is restored to office, I will come back on here and eat my words.

If the opposite happens, are you willing to do the same thing? My prediction is you will still say "it wasn't fair" and throw your lollipop down in the dirt, take your barbies, and sulk home.

Don't you have a hard time with the sheriff not taking responsibility for the deputies he was supervising? Don't you have a healthy amount of skeptism for his lack of a defense? Why wasn't he ready to present his defense before a judge?

Davis is not the permanent replacement replacement for Kinney. Kinney could be returned to office. The worst thing that can happen is we'll have another election. Maybe people will take more interest in it than usual. That would be a good thing for Hockley County.

Come on. Kinney worked with Bohannon for over two decades. Don't we deserve a fresh start?

I have one more very important question: Why didn't Kinney himself recognize Bohannon's instability and obvious loose-cannon behavior? Because he was intimidated? Turning his head? None of these answers are acceptable even for a fast food manager, much less a man sworn to uphold the law.

I would greatly respect him if he had intitiated the hard steps to block all of this before it came to what has happened.

The person who did initiate the hard, very unpleasant work of starting some changes deserves credit in my opinion.

No matter how far you choose to go back, at least Mr. Dennis had the guts and the willpower to choose a place for the buck to stop.

Hate to keep having to explain the justice system to you but Bohannon or the other deputy have not been found guilty of anything - so that really doesn't play very well in your scenario.

And Dennis never claimed things "were getting worse" he made claims on things that HAD happened- not that WERE happening.

Seems Dave's years of service and lives he has saved might at least earn him a fair hearing to begin with. But now he has been labeled "guilty" and has to come in and prove he is not.

Not how I like my America to work.

I have a hard time with anyone who cannot take responsibility for their actions! As for lollipops and Barbies I am way past that stage! I am not saying that you are wrong but I definitely am not saying you are right! It sounds to me like you have a great idea of what the evidence against Kinney is! It also sounds like you want Kinney crucified because of Bohannon. So lets put that idea to work.. How many times in business have we seen people do things that was right under their boss's nose and yet until something major happened, they did not have an idea anything was wrong. It happens a lot of the time and no one is more shocked than the boss him or herself. Now, again with the rumors that have been in Levelland for decades why blame it all on one man. Absolutely the buck needed to stop here, but has it? I do not live in Hockley Co all by myself playing with my Barbies and holding on to my lollipop, I know if the citizens heard all of this how did "the powers that be" not hear the same thing? Why didnt you do something a long time ago? Surely unless you are hearing impaired you heard it all too!Kinney did not hire Bohannon, and it did not all start in the last few years, so you tell me why it was not stopped sooner!

Hey Vet don't let him get to you , people always spout things like "lollipops and Barbies" when the facts fail them.People with facts don't need them.

Pretty common.

Thanks User, this person is not getting to me, but it is very sad that he is using this format to spread his glory. It is kind of like the town meeting he held at South Plains College, it too was nothing more than a joke!

I had no idea there was so much controversy in our town. I didn't go to school here but have been here for over two decades. I've never been in trouble with the law and had no reason for the sheriff's department to be of interest to me until now.

Mr. Dennis put forth the reasons for his petition to remove Kinney. I have given facts to support my opinions.

I have seen no answers to the questions I asked or reasons for the blind faith in Kinney. I agree that he absolutely, surely did some good for Hockley County.

That does not negate the damage done during his watch.

And user, I like my America to work the same for all. Not based on the good ol' boy network. Nice try with playing the "patriot card" though! What next? I'm unchristian? Gonna talk about mama and church and that sappy propaganda?

Where are y'all's EDUCATED, INFORMED opinions?

I'm sure you only like things like this when it suits your purposes.

Most everyone else finds it a little distasteful.

Manipulating the system to place your crony in office is a little bit over the top- if you ask me.

Wonder if Dennis go after Goff for being "incompetent" in not filing charges on Kinney?

VeteransDaughter, please let me assure you that I have never even held an office meeting, much less a town hall! I'm a totally ordinary citizen. I am not even personally acquainted with any of the people we are discussing! I know assurances on an internet forum must be taken with a grain of salt. But you have no idea who I am.

I do not have BLIND FAITH in anyone, I just look at this whole situation as being part of a feeding frenzy over the arrest of Bohannan and the others. Lets make a name for ourselves should not be considered a fair charge to try and ruin a mans name and reputation. I do know David Kinney, as I have known many of them and I can happily say that I have never had any kind of problems with the law, sorry not even a speeding ticket. So again, my defense is not strictly for Kinney but for ANYONE who is dealt with unjustly, and yes I do believe that it was done for personal gain and notoriety for some.

Oh yes, I did go to the Courthouse the day Kinney made his statements and evidentally either you or myself were at different places. I did not hear the tone you have used displayed by him in anyway.
I guess once again it just depends on how you listen, closed ears or open ones and I do accept your apology for the lollipop and barbie statement, it happens.. If you are not him then you are closely connected and again that is my opinion only. And if so, that is okay, everyone needs at least one friend! lol

VeteransDaughter, if that is the case, I hope Mr. Kinney is vindicated and returned to his office.
