I've been following WagonTeamster Bob Skelding's travel blog for over a year and a half now. I just read in his latest blog entry that he was thrown out of a rest stop by the Levelland authorities. He, three draft horses and a little bitty poodle were ordered to 'pack their kit 'n' GIT!', which sounds pretty odd considering the many Texans I've met over the years who all have hearts as big as, well, Texas!

There's got to be more to the story than this. Anybody know what happened, who would care to share?

I follow this link to Topix and discover another fellow Roman has written regarding Bob's hasty exit from Levelland. How interesting. According to Bob's guest book, the deputies who asked him to leave cited a city ordinance that says "no livestock" within the city limits, which includes the RV park. How sad that the chief of police, who ordered said deputies to deport Bob, could not see the difference between an overnight stop of a wagon team, and someone keeping cattle in their front yard. Oh boy, just goes to show that one person can ruin an entire town.

I just don't know what to say about this. After the reporter from the newspaper went out and shot pictures, then the wonderful Constable coming out and welcoming the team with hay, I'm SHOCKED that the PD would be in such a hurry to make Bob and the crew get out of their city. I'm more than shocked, I'm APPALLED by this!! My words to these city "officials" is "You bring SHAME to your city!" If I were a citizen of your town I would be raising the roof with outrage. Some "Fine American Town" you show yourselves to be!! You will be forever remembered as "The City That Kicked Out The Wagonteamster" enjoy that new title.

Shame on you Levelland officials for kicking Bob and the team out of town. I'm sure your ordinances for keeping livestock pertains to and was intended for the long term not an overnight stop. You went to far on this one. I'll be changing my route when I vacation in the area this fall to eliminate your unwelcoming town from my travels. Shame on you.

I live in the area and when Bob came by on his journey I too was shocked that Levelland had forced him to leave. I am a born Levellander and I am totally ashamed something like this would happen. I did however show the hospitality that I was raised with and we gave him feed, hay, and a few groceries to continue his journey.. All I can say is I am ashamed Levelland City Officers acted in such a manner, its kind of strange since they are all about the multi-purpose arena being built to bring in animal events. Sorry Bob, this should have not happened and a letter is going into the paper next week. Safe Journey and God Bless!

well bob, your visit was for more than a night. and i believe the only reason a policeman even showed up out there was they had recieved three complaints. maybe you should learn to pick up after yourself and your traveling team. wouldnt you be pissed if you walked into a bathroom stall and no one had flushed their crap. ya need to learn to pick up after yourself buddy.

very simply , pick up your shit or hit the road.

guess you decided to hit the road.
safe journey !

Amy, I feel for you and your town. I suppose if you had your way, you would do away with all living creatures in your area that don't flush the crapper. I feel the the rabbits, squirrels, birds,
and all other living creatures that have ever DARED to poop in your vacinity. Droppings from critters is NATURAL, it DISOLVES in no time, and it's good for the earth. Make sure you don't step outside, there's poop EVERYWHERE you step.

The chief had a lot more things on his plate that he did not want people to know. How he handled them long story short.Do not beleive me just ask a few people around town. The old home people here are not like that sad publicity for us.
