Carjackers abduct woman to Arizona

A quick trip to the supermarket Sunday turned into a frightening, life-changing experience for a Gallup woman.

What does race have to do with the crime? The crime was committed by two idiots, idiots come in all shapes, sizes and races.

Provide a link to a story where a named suspect is described by race and, in your opinion, race shouldn't have been considered in the crime.

Ditto Doc's comment. Any criminal who steals a GM car with OnStar is an idiot. Starting with the 2009 models, OnStar is able to shutdown the vehicle.

Crime and evil does not discriminate. This victim was lucky that she was not killed or injured during the coarse of this crime.

As a person of minority status, I could care less what the ethnicity of a criminal is. I am more concerned with the fact he/she are amongst the general public and are able to perform their evil deeds with impunity.

If the crime rate statistics are disproportionately skewed to reflect that a high rate of crime by minorities, then could it be possible that they commit those crimes.

Nope. In the past, even a suspect's national origin has come up. Strangely enough, two suspects in the greater Albuquerque area, set a fire deliberately that consumed lots of acres of forest land, and used up lots of $$$ in resources, materials, and manhours. The media was
downright BENEVOLENT when detailing their crime
and made much of their admission and "regrets" over the incident. Comments from the peanut gallery were also just about non-existent. Had that been a Black, or Hispanic (regardless of race) many people would have barely stopped short of a torch-light parade and condemnation of all individuals of the same ethnic/racial or national origin as the perpetrators. Somehow, crimes don 't seem as bad to many folks when Northern Europeans commit them.

Maybe you don't remember the bogus "Cuban Criminal Crisis" Mayor for Life Chavez and Chief of Police Joe "The Framer" Polisar shoveled in March 1997, over the arrest of some 22 Cuban refugees on marihuana selling charges (small amounts). Above and beyond that suspects are almost always described as "possibly Hispanic or Native American" when they are swarthy-skinned, dark-haired, dark-eyed. In most of the rest of the world, they are usually described by their appearance- since a person fitting such description could be either North African, Middle-Eastern, or from the Pacific Rim. Because of the increasing presence of people from the rest of the world here, we shouldn't just go for "Hispanic or Native American" right off the bat.
For one thing, most Hispanics in the world are NOT mestizos, and many Native Americans, especially from the New England area, could "pass" as "White". Racial/ethnic labels are not only inaccurate, they have been known to lead to the wrong suspects, only to be cleared years later after wrongful imprisonment through DNA evidence. I do realize how satisfying and convenient it is to just slap a label on individuals and be done with it.

It's not race or national origin that plays a part in crimes and who commits them, but socio-economic status and economic opportunities. In the 1840s, when the Irish were recently arrived in the USA, they were also bad-mouthed as criminals and in many places there were signs proclaiming: "NO Irish". The terms "hooligan",
"brouhaha", "mickey finn", "malarkey",(the original date rape drug term), and many others describing fighting, unlawful behavior, lies, etc. were attributed to the Irish for a very long time. When Russian immigrants arrived, many of them were labeled as "anarchists" and bearded caricatures setting off bombs. The Italians were all portrayed as gangsters (though organized crime also boasted LOTS of Irish, Jewish, Russian, and even German mobsters). Every group that has had to struggle for a place under the economic sun, even Chinese, VietNamese, etc. have had SOME of their people involved in crime.
It's a matter of EVERY group of people has a small percentage that want to take short-cuts to success. Even the Kennedys and their bootlegging father-turned respectable, Joseph Kennedy, Senior. Let's try to remember that some of the GREATEST CRIMES in history, against people and property, have been committed by NATIONS, like Germany under Hitler, Russia under Stalin and others, and China under Mao Tse-Tung and others.

A woman was abducted in broad daylight at gunpoint, driven to Arizona, and finally released physically unharmed. A woman with the suspect was shot and is now in the hospital and the suspect killed himself and a bunch of people are posting racial comments? I'm glad the crazy suspect shot himself and left the older woman alive. What a bunch of numbskulls.

As for the older woman she had 9 children and 10 grandchildren. I'm glad she made it home and hoping she will heal from the emotional scars the suspect left her with.

This woman will never feel safe again in Gallup, NM. I can agree with her on that aspect, I never feel safe in Gallup, NM.

People need to get off their soapbox of knowing more than anyone else and getting into the history of racial slurs. Who cares if it was a mexican, black, asian, white or a new rimmer? Who really cares?

A womans life was in danger for at least 3 hours and she survived. That alone is much more than I can say for most of the posters, this woman had what it took to stay alive.

Jean Johnson is my aunt. She has 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She has dealt with a lot of loss in her life, as well as is a cancer survivor herself. My aunt does not discriminate against anyone. The two who did this are losers and the subject of race and ethnicity should not enter into the picture. There are good and bad people in all ethnicites. I thank God that she once again has managed to defeat and overcome tragedy.

As a member of a minority race in this country, I have found that using race as a crutch for ones failures in life will lead down a path to nowhere. Being of little means and a minority is not an excuse to lead a life of crime.

If you equate living in America to all the nations that suppressed minorities or even their own people, then our views are diametrically opposite.

This countries history is far from perfect, but many wrongs have been corrected. This country still allows the minority of meager means to, educate themselves and prosper. It is only those that believe that crime is away to succeed in archiving that which they do not posses are the ones that bring us down.
