It's no secret that the economic downturn has hit families everywhere hard. It has hit so hard, in fact, that food pantries across Western New York have begun following new rules that stipulate to whom food can be given.

Of course they cited a Salamanca resident... one more reason to say why Salamanca is disgusting. I bet this person was truck hopping for food. I don't believe for one minute they were picking up for other households. When people need to get to the truck, welfare office, ER in Olean, or walmart on Friday night, they get their ride.

Mine gets delivered and before I got anything from the Food Pantry, I filled out an application, showed my utility bills and each year they recertify you. This, however is in Gowanda.
I wish also that they could check the dates on some of their products they receive as "donations". Some canned goods are WAY out of date & dairy products are (this week) dated over a week ago. I just have to throw it out. I really appreciate everything I get though so don't get me wrong. It's just that if a really "strict" date, such as is on a "spoilable" item, is over a week expired, I'm afraid to eat it.
