Yes, the car was parked in an spot that it shouldn't have been. I told him to park it over at the other street but he wanted to prove a point.
He did prove the point as they fell for it hook line and tow. What was corrupt is the fact that the city froze the ability to remove the car until the fee went up to $1,500. This is corruption!
What is happening is these unethical things are becomming the norm so the ethical ruler is moved.
I agree the fee shouldn't be $1,500 for a police tow due to being illegally parked.
BUT is there something more attached to this such as a criminal case? Then the city has the right to keep the car impounded until a thorough investigation is completed.
Proving a point using illegal methods is more serious than just parking illegally. Proving a point means the perpetrator is showing possible dangerous tendencies that can grow into more extreme acts of crime.
The crime is the same but the MOTIVE was alot different and a dangerous person investigation would have been justified. The vehicle is kept for evidence.
Normal people just don't commit crimes no matter how serious the crime is. It starts small and can lead to other more serious crimes to prove a point and the police have to stop that before it happens.
