Put the brakes on school-bus escorts
Two accidents involving Leominster school buses in the first two weeks of school certainly are a cause for concern, but we find Mayor Dean Mazzarella's call for police escorts of school buses an overreaction.

It is good to finally hear some good, ol' fashioned common sense on this subject! As I said in my other post on this subject, the knee jerk reaction of pi-ssing away grant money by paying cops overtime to follow school busses around is not only wasteful, it will be ineffective.
Why not simply have the cops who are on duty anyway (and who are earning straight time pay) watch out for motorists and how they are driving as they approach school busses? Isn't that part of their job anyway?
This was one dopey, dopey idea alright! I am sure the cops loved it though! More overtime pay, simply to do what they should be doing on straight time!
Let's all hope that Mazzarella has the good sense to remove his head from his buttocks and to use grant money wisely. In other words, do his job and not worry about keeping the cops vote for next election time!
