So Waste Management cut jobs because they no longer needed 3 guys to pick up the trash when the recycling program was implemented.

Waste Management charges the city to manage our landfill but they allow out of State disposal with trucks coming in from New Hampshire and New York. They are also making money charging these out of state companies disposal fees.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, this is privileged information but they also sell the methane generated by the landfill to power plants.

Now I do understand the science of landfill management in today's world does require professionals with advance education and equipment and planning then it did years ago due to saving the eco system push, but making money off the residents recycling is defeating the purpose.

Most articles I have seen do state it is cheaper NOT to recycle but since everyone wants to go "Green" and the tree huggers want to see this because it will lower the "carbon footprint" of community for future generations is the reason for recycling. But Waste Management does sell the recycled material to companies such as Newark America in Fitchburg to produce the "Harry Potter" book bindings.

So lets recap this:

1.)(saving millions due to lower personnel cost and benefits).

2.)(making millions from out of state disposals when our landfill was suppose to be near full, this is why we hired Waste Management.)

3.)(making millions off the methane generated by the landfill).

4.)(making millions off the recycle materials)

5.)(City of Fitchburg paying Waste Management to manage the landfill)

Now they want to charge the resident's a fee for the recycle bins? I don't think so.
