Fitchburg council subcommittee OKs $1.1M for new city vehicles

FITCHBURG -- The City Council Finance Committee has unanimously approved borrowing $1.1 million for a new firetruck and other vehicles for city departments.

The loan order includes $424,000 for a fire engine,$34,000 for a command car for the fire chief,$42,000 for a command car for the deputy fire chief,$23,000 for a pickup truck for the Board of Health,$32,000 for a pickup truck with a plow for the Police Department, and $440,000 for two heavy-duty dump trucks, and $105,000 for a backhoe for the Department of Public Works.

The measure must still go through the full City Council to be approved.

Sweet. Now you can see that Mayor Wongs plan is working. It has to make you feel good that the city has the money to afford these much needed vehicles to serve the city.

They actually need at least TWO new fire engines. They trucks they have now cost an average of $1,000 PER WEEK to repair constantly. they are towed by Aldrich and repaired at Ricky's truck service in Leominster. One engine just cost $11,000 to repair a couple of weeks ago.
