First off my son I give my kids a check put into their accounts weekly. He does not have cash to spend in the vending machines and then to charge his lunches later that day. I think its great for the ones getting free lunches , but my son should be allowed some slack for forgetting to take his money in. Give me a break. This does happen on a daily basis if its not one kid its another. And I have yet to meet a lunch lady with a personality if your that under paid and unhappy quit.. They will take your lunch for being short but do absolutely nothing about the teacher swearing at kids in class. HELLOOOOO

My son was denied his lunch and it was taken away from him because his lunch account was .55 short.. Im so mad, what kind of person can take a lunch from a student regardless . These schools are out of control.
Maybe you should take control of your son's lunch money and pay all his "hot" meals up front then you would have nothing to complain about. Gimme gimme gimme. When the last time you went to McDonalds and short changed them .50 cents for your kids meal? If you're not responsible then how can anyone expect your kid to be. Grow up and look in the mirror if you want to see who is out of control.

Why should anyone recieve a free lunch what is it like two bucks if you can't afford that you shouldn't be having kids. These minorities just want everything given to them for free. There is no such thing as a free lunch someone is paying for it. No wonder the state has no money. I can't wait to get out of this liberal state.
That is just mean. You never know someones circumstances, I agree there are people that just want hand outs ,but there are a lot of people who have come on hard times. How about the parent I know who lost her husband and now is a single mom of three struggling ? I don't let my kid make fun of people ever for things like that you never know how you could end up yourself.

umm yeah I do pay his lunch and ask him what he has left every other day but he decided to get an extra orange juice or and went over. And when you go to Mcdonalds you don't go unless you have money. Your right I should look in the mirror and see the working family who pays their taxes gets two straight A kids through school and is active in the community. Teaches their kids right from wrong . But since he was short one time in his entire school career we are just worthless got it ..

Sounds to me like you are one of those uneducated, ill-bred Fitchburg Moms who had too many children, have an axe to grind about teachers, schools, lunch ladies..... Go pick up your welfare check, get your free Mass Health glasses and be quiet.

Spare us the melodrama. I doubt the kid was starving after only one missed meal. The Mom ran right to the newspaper so fast she forgot to feed him dinner. I have no doubts that had this not happened she'd have been fine with him getting free lunch for the rest of the year. Maybe he's a bit tired too. Lets start school at 10:30 am so that everybody has enough sleep and there is no 'ripple effect'.
I agree. As a parent it is my responsibility to know whether my child is bringing a lunch to school or whether my child needs lunch money to purchase a meal. I don't expect the school district to run up charges on multiple students accounts even if it is my own child. I pay taxes, for education, not meals. Parents do make mistakes and "forget" to cover every detail, but a parent should never blame the teacher, or the "lunch lady, or the principal...if parents want the policy changed on allowing students to "charge" their meals, they need to speak to the school board. In our district, the school board votes on issues such as this. That way my taxes are not paying for families meals who "accidentally forget to pay", nor for those familes who just don't bother to pay, and not for meals for kids who might actually be deciding on their own to skip mom's PB&J for the pizza with fries instead. it happens.
