Feds sue to shut down Lancaster tax preparer
Federal prosecutors have filed a lawsuit that seeks to shut down a Lancaster County tax preparer in order to bar her from preparing federal tax returns for others.

This is absurd.
The penalty for a preparer asserting a position in a tax return which is unlikely to be sustained is $5000 or half the income derived, whichever is greater.
They should be assessing Dorothea Alexander $5000 per return, and criminally prosecuting her for fraud.
Oh, and that $5000 per return? It is NOT dischargeable in federal bankruptcy court.
A tax preparer should be an aggressive advocate for his clients' position. He's supposed to ensure that the client pays the least amount of tax that is legally justifiable, not a penny less, not a penny more.
Additionally, the state should take a close look at Pawn Plus, and determine whether their license to operate a pawn shop should be revoked.
