So YNN does one of it's few stories about our region and it decides to give a platform to this man? How dare he claim that he's concerned about the economic direction of the city when it was his slight of hand accounting that got us here in the first place? How dare he talked about Mayor Alcombright raising taxes and not mention that he raised them as well?Finishing in the bottom third of the elected council members is not a mandate for him to swoop in and take us back to fiscal irresponibility. The only upside is that he has few freinds on the council and will hopefully be kept in check. Let's be honest, Mr. Barrett, the council is a powerless body there only to approve the actions of the Mayor, right? That's how you treated them, so I expect you to act in like manner. Acting any other way would be admitting you were wrong. Are you prepared to do that?

There will be a lot of 7-2 and 6-3 votes. He and Harpin will oppose any Mohawk plans, any budget that doesn't meet his budget priorities, anything that might remove the public safety commish position permanently, anything that gives any employee any raise.... ever. John is there to obstruct. That's the only reason. He was embarrassed and called-out for his creative bookkeeping and now he wants to have a platform to keep that from happening again. I imagine his consulting business is not going as planned. Also, what happened to his position at Berkshire Works? Not enough golf time? or is he still there? It will take him 20 years to be able to afford to sell his house, so there is no chance of him retiring to Florida. Maybe he really is more grown-up than I remember and has learned a bit of humility. If so, that's great. If not, it's going to be a really long two years of B.S. at every meeting and potentially the loss of some new businesses as such things as commercial tax credits, etc. get stalled.

May I cut into this dance?? Barrett and Harpin are only two votes which you have determined would be against an Alcombright agenda ---it takes six votes to obstruct--that is to override a veto---I don't see that happening-it's a strong Mayor system and the majority of the Council knows that--yes meeting time itself might be longer --although there were a number of meetings over the past two years that were somewhat lengthy---and if Cardimino keeps his pledge??? the meetings will probably be briefer----a long two years?? I don't think so--except maybe for entertainment value

There must be some Trifecta rule in the pension system. Maybe if you are elected to 3 city offices you can triple your pension.

I heard Barrett is already pushing Marden to be president and appoint him to the best committees that control money and public safety. He's not in there yet and already pulling strings.

So what Barrett has to get some assignments--three incumbents gone so there will be vacancies---in fact if Marden becomes President he will give up his Council Committee seats--member of FinCom and Chair of Public Safety----and on Public Safety- Boland is gone so give JBKthat slot she sure has been very public about wanting it----a lot of "grunt" work is done on Committees-when stuff goes through the Council and to Committee on referral---BUT it is the Council that ultimately votes--even if a negative report came out of Committee - the full Council is under no obligation to accept it--I suspect that other Councilor are acively angling for something or other-------and since we are on the Committee issue- I didn't like Alcombright going to FinCom on the budget and on the mattress factory without first going through the Council for a referral----that is proper- the Committees work for the Council NOT the Mayor
