Connecting Point: Cleaning the Housatonic River
A Berkshire Scenic Railway car makes its way though Lenox on a fall excursion. The Housatonic River, which runs from Western Massachusetts, near Pittsfield, all the way down to Long Island Sound, was contaminated with PCB pollution from a nearby General Electric plant during 1932 until 1977.

EPA is powerless against the demands of the giant weapons builder....The GE
It's all a show with this clean up of the river, just like Pittsfield's clean up. Congress told the EPA no funding will be given to battle GE in the courts. So who holds all the cards? One guess...GE.
Watch the outcome, just like Hill 78 and Silver Lake, and the Hudson River. Do little or nothing is GE's order for the day.
Mark my words GE WILL NEVER do a realistic clean up that would cost in the billions. "So sweep it under the rug and forget about it", EPA says in their 1000's of pages and reports and their circus and show of their meetings. Watch how they bend to GE and will try to convince you everything is fine and dandy...
Just more corruption from the politicians and big business, working for the Almighty Dollar.
But hey we are letting them get away with it.
We should be out in the masses on the City Halls and GE'S steps.
We should scoop it up and put it in their backyards.
Starting with the Politicians, GE, EPA and Health officials involved with this matter in the Pittsfield are.
We'll see if they think it is safe then.
I've been watching this scenario unfold since 1970
And have seen all of the crookedness done to the city I was born and raised in.

"This river is one of the most highly contaminated rivers in the world," said Timothy Gray of the Housatonic River Initiative.
The Environmental Protection Agency will decide in the fall how the river cleanup will be accomplished.

And God-forbid any of the PCB-infected residents of Pittsfield should take a stand and file a $100 Billion class action against G.E. for poisoning Pittsfield.
There sure as hell ain't no one on the City Council or in the Mayor's Office with stones enough to do it either.
Does anyone wonder why Pittsfield was always the laughing stock within GE Corporate headquarters?

And they keep on reaping.....
GE net income rises 77 percent in 1Q
GE Capital's profits more than tripled to $1.8 billion in the quarter. Revenue rose 3 percent and GE Capital took a smaller provision against possible loan losses.
GE's transportation, health care, aviation, and home and business solutions businesses also posted increased earnings.
Profit at GE's energy infrastructure business, however, declined 7 percent to $1.38 billion.
GE has spent about $11 billion recently to acquire numerous energy companies including French equipment developer Converteam, Dresser Inc., Wellstream Holdings, Lineage Power Holdings and Well Support.
The company also sold a controlling stake in NBC Universal to Comcast Corp. during the quarter for $6.2 billion in cash. GE now has a 49 percent ownership in NBC.

Until they clean up the still contaminated, poison spewing plant, in Pittsfield there is no sense in doing anything downstream.
Revoke the consent decree and do it right.
And don't let the Puppets , at the Left Winged Parrot, or City Hall have a say in any of it.
