Kid gangs thriving in Housatonic

If memory serves me correctly, there were gangs in Housatonic, part of Great Barrington, back in the '70s. People banded together, a crime watch was established and a serious situation was mitigated. Read more

I love these forums. Last week, GE laid out a plan to remove PCB's from the Housatonic River only as far as Woods Pond, even though it is heavily contaminated all the way down to the dam behind the Rising Mill. Total posts on the subject; less than 20. Talk about someone's dear child in a critical way; 243 posts and counting ...

That is probably because G.E. and the Feds are going to do what they want no matter what the people say.

Actually, I think that the reason people are more interested in this type of discussion over one that directly affects their health and the health of their children, is that they are lazy and have their priorities screwed up ...

No need to apologize, I do not sit around listening to the scanner. The only reason is that my husband needs it for his service that he does for the town. But why do I need to explain to myself. I'm busy making sure that my children are behaving and staying out of trouble.

A few thoughts for you:
1 - I agree that the forums are a good venue for spreading the word. My point was that comparatively speaking a relativly minor incident draws more attention than one that has far-reaching consequences.
2 - What is your deal anyway with political affiliations? Is your entire world based on left & right? FYI - I am far from the main stream definition of a "liberal". I am an engineer, work for a large chemical corporation, and I don't hug trees. What do you do for a living? Maybe it will help me understand where you are coming from ...
Thank you! I actually like/appreciate GMH's contributions, but the "some ole' left vs. right" gets, well, OLD.

Pretty basically what it comes down to is aberdale's had competition....The Corner Market...the kids are all in good graces with the delegrandes because they do not think they are better or of more class then these kids.....they relate to the kids and treat them with respect. The aberdales have always thought they were better then everybody in Housatonic, putting families down left and right, until their son Joe got into trouble of his own...the name had a mark on it, so now it is time to try to come out from behind and what better way then to acuse the kids of beating this huge guy up....PLEASE a little common sense here.
What are you talking about? At least one of them is not allowed in the Corner Market. Are you doubting that it happened by "accuse" and "common sense"? They were bragging about what they had done the next day..Competition? What kind? I seriously doubt there is a candy war going on since that is the only thing in common.

I hire people to blow dogs for nickels and give change.
Then I sell the videos on Ebay for a quarter (plus $12.95 shipping).
Why, you need part-time work to supplement your $125G salary from SABIC?

I don't work for Sabic, you shouldn't make assumptions like that. There is another (larger) chemical firm in the area. Actually I asked because I wanted to know what your tax status might be. You know, are you a taxpayer, like me with my 100K salary, or are you a just another guy looking for "equality" without doing any actual work? You seem to have a lot to say about people and groups and the taxes they pay (or don't pay if they have good accountants), and I was wondering how much you invest in the United States Treasury each year. I'm betting it isn't much ...

And you still didn't answer the question - What do you do for a living? Come on, a bright guy like you can answer a question, right? You ask a lot of questions of others, how about answering a couple for a change?

Sorry Thixotrophic, but I wasn't aware that a private citizen who isn't head of a not-for-profit or publicly traded corporation needed to answer questions like that.
Especially on Topix where, of all the people posting comments, I am one of the few who actually identifies himself without hiding, like yourself, behind a nom de plume.
My ID info is already posted publicly on WHOIS.
What's your real name, Thixotrophic, and what's your mailing address and telephone number?

All's I am saying are there are two side to every story, and living in Housatonic all of my life as well and going to school with both the Delegrande's and the Aberdale's as well as serving on the fir department with the Aberdale's I know the way they have talked about every single family in Housatonic, most likely including yours. It took a lot for the Delegrande's to not allow for this particular kid in the store, and the fact remains he is allowed in there buut he must come in while Joe or Dana is there.....so it is time for you to get your facts straight and listen to what not 1, 2 or 3 kids are saying but 95 percent of the population in Housatonic.
