There is a house in Lower Creek that an old friend of mines grandma used to live in. After staying there a couple times, we both swore that place was haunted. Several years later I met someone who lived in that house at one point as well. He also believed the house was haunted. His family moved out of that house because of it. The house is across from the big church in Lower Creek (the one with the run down baseball field). Its an old house, but I'm pretty sure someone still lives in it.

I am almost sure this house is on Norwood Street, I also think it is for sale at this time.

It's not for sale any more, Mark sold it and the woman who bought it is in the process of renovating the house.

Janice where is the forestry station at the Gorge...not sure anymore has been a while since I was there
it's after you cross the steel bridge. you take a left out towards the old campground and the forestry station is on the right. you will see a small hill to the left of the station, kind of behind it. it's an old foundation where a church once stood and if my memory serves me correct, there's still some of the rock foundation in front. go up that small hill and head straight back through those woods and after a few short yards, you will see the old cemetery. to me, it's spooky but i love the history of this county and the cemetery is a piece of that history. to know that "Mortimer" was once a thriving, industrialized town that was washed away in the 1940's, is very interesting to me. i remember when we had the old sears catalog pickup store in Lenoir and I went in to pick up a package one day. all i had to give them when i placed the order was my name, address. phone number, and zip code. they did not ask for the city. when i picked the package up it had my name, address, and the name of the town was "Mortimer" with the Lenoir zip code. I asked about that and the lady said that Mortimer WAS Lenoir before the flood. the town people just moved after they lost everything in the flood, many never wanting to rebuild there for fear of losing everything again.

I'm not the "just wondering" who asked the question, but found that very interesting, Janice. Thanks for sharing.

There is a figure of a little girl that hides behind the corners of lenoir rescue. when i have stayed there many time at night alone i have heard something moving around in the truck bays so i would get up to go look. when ever i would enter the bays i would hear doors of the trucks closing and i would see a figure of a little girl running into a supply closet. When i go to open it no one is there. I have also heard things in the bays and when i would walk into the bays i would see some of our equipment just laying on the ground. I know that people are not playing games on me because there are other members that has had the same experience

Imagine, that footage was taken last year at Caldwell County Hospice in uptown Lenoir. And there's definitely a ghost living there on the top floor.

I know there are things in this world that we can't explain. I have dreams often that come true. And I don't mean just little coincidental things. These are things that happen exactly as it did in the dreams. Anyway, as for the ghost stuff, my youngest brother and his wife live in a house in Lenoir, and they have seen a little girl with long blond hair. She is always wearing a blue dress with a white pinafore over it. Before they started seeing the little girl, they would see a man-shaped shadow walking from the front door through the foyer. First they would see it out of the corner of their eye. Eventually they actually saw the man for like a split second and he was wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt with a black vest over it. Also, their hair dryer in the bathroom has turned on with nobody being in there. And lights have turned on and off. Really weird....

I have a relative who lives at the Koinonia Apartments, and she has seen a man in her apartment. He was sitting in one of her chairs. He had thick, white hair, that was brushed back. He was wearing a brown blazer and seersucker pants. I don't even know what seersucker pants are. She sews a lot so she noticed what they were. He smiled at my relative and then he just floated off the chair and disappeared. She's had several other strange things to happen there too. The history of Koinonia is interesting as the original structure burned. It used to be a sanitorium. I think that's what I read in the Caldwell County historical book years ago.

Actually it used to be a Hotel. It was built in 1899 with the original purpose of being a hospital but shortly after completion it was sold and named the Archer Hotel. My great-great aunt who just recent passed away used to live at Koinonia and once she started going down hill from dementia she moved in with my grandmother but she would tell people she lived at the Archer Hotel.

Could this later have been called the Carlheim Hotel, or is that something different altogether?

The Carlhem Hotel stood where Koinoia is now. Many years a go the was a house next door that belonged to Dr. Hadley Wilson. He had his practice there also. I vaguely remember going there with my mother when I was a small child. The house and the hotel were torn down about 40 years ago.
