Listening on fire traffic channel. Hudson Hospice and all surrounding area being evacuated. Number of firemen overcome by heat. No one believed to be in the building, closed for holiday.
Firemen are pulling back from Food lion to Fairground. Explosions still going off, building is destroyed. Help from other counties being requested asap.

I live in the immediate area of CC. We were manditory evac'ed at about 3:30pm. The radius started out for one mile, has now increased to 2 miles manditory and 5 miles recommended. This situation has required assistance from 7 different counties to try to get it under control. A friend of mine that works there says the production area is completely gone. The fire is now reported to be in the tank yard and moving toward the more explosive/volitile stuff...as my husband and I were leaving, there was an explosion..from what I have heard since, there have been two-three more. Anyone in that area is well served to stay away...go opposite the direction that the wind is blowing, because the wind will carry the chemicals..if you have to be out in that area, keep your air conditioners on recirculated air and have a wet wash cloth with you to cover your mouth and nose..my throat is sore as it is and we were using precautions...this ain't no joke, and shouldn't be treated like one either..

there is a lot that could be said to give answer to your question.
Hopefully there will be enough of the place left for an investigation to occur...that is my hope anyway..

I guess things calmed down from CSI exploding, now we will have to deal with the sicknesses that this mess will bring..

CSI (Caldwell Systems Inc) was the incenerator plant out on Lick Mountain just right up the road from Chemical Coatings...it blew up in 1989...a lot of people in the area came up with a lot of cancers, most of them the rare type...

CSI (Caldwell Systems Inc toxic waste incinerator) exploded in 1988 causing the same area to be evacuated and filled the hospital ER with the smoke inhalation victims. Hundreds developed cancer, respiratory disease, conective tissue disorders and brain stem damage as long term effects of that operation. The promised CDC follow up study has never happend. The final official story was that the incident was "an act of God". Personally, I thought it was most likely "Jewish lightning"

Caldwell systems was poisoning the area, burning imported torpedo fuel from San Diego for years.
Our wonderful political leaders let it go on (both parties) for years for the tax money. Workers there did not even have chem suits, brought the sludge home on their clothes to their families. Most workers died of Parkinson like symptoms or cancer. The land is still polluted.
It was never superfund cleaned up the whole thing was just hushed up. Some people still defend that company and its president, Charles Foushee.

34 departments responded, with the farthest being Gaston, Charlotte, and Yadkin County.

2 firemen were sent to the hospital, they are ok.

15 LEOs reported problems breathing/headache, and were sent home to DECON with a shower and new clothes.

Thank God it went as well as it did.
