Great news! Janet Smith just announced she is a "write in" candidate for Mayor of Lenoir!!

You can meet her this Saturday at the cruise in. She will be set up on West Ave.

She is an impact candidate that promotes serious change for Lenoir.

We have one chance to Vote For Change this time...."write in" Janet Smith for Mayor.

She will soon have her headquarters set up at the Antique Market on West Ave.

Thank for your interest. I just moved back to NC last year. I Thought I was retiring but decided to begin working on a B & B Uptown Lenoir. That is taking longer than expected. But I will soon be open. In the process of joining the Lenoir Uptown Business Association I began hearing frustrations with local government and offered my help. I have been an elected official in two other states, VA and Washington State for the past 35 years. Town Council, water-sewer district commissioner, planning commissioner, shoreline advisory board commissioner, and a land use planner. In addition I have owned and operated 5 different businesses, worked as an executive consultant for many companies and raised 12 children. I would like to bring that experience to help create a new vision and energy to Lenoir. That vision would help to develop JOB opportunities and new employment opportunities for Lenoir. Of course I cannot do this by myself. I will need the community's imput and help. I will need to introduce myself to you, share the VISION and ask for you support. We will start a campaign center in Uptown Lenoir this week at the Old Antique Market just off the Square on West Ave across from City Hall. I will also be at the Cruise in on Saturday afternoon and evening. Hope to hear from you all soon.

like a snowball falling through hell.

She has no shot, thanks for trying though, what you prob don't realize is that for all the "talk" you have done you have managed to piss a lot of people off, people who have been here longer, paid more in taxes and have spent a good deal on their investments in downtown. Let me know when you get that B&B up and running, it won't be with your $$$ that is for sure.

This is what is wrong with Lenoir everybody. Somebody who was just awarded a buch of grant money with the help from his buddies wants to trash talk another candidate! You are pathetic Keith.

I wouldn't use the word snowball if I were you! Things could turn against you, with all that you have on the line with your new location.

Don't forget you are a business owner downtown and have a reputation to uphold. You should support the business owners and hope that they all do well, because someday that B&B is going to have customers that want to eat and drink downtown.

Good luck to you, I think you will soon realize the hole you have dug yourself in.

It won't be worth "your $$$ that is for sure"

Janet,
Not trying to knock you or anything, just an honest question... Why didn't you file in time to have your name on the ballot instead of running as a write in?

What organizations have you consulted for? Where and when? What businesses did you start? What happened to them? Have you ever worked for an organization as a paid employee? Where? What schools did you graduate from? Major? Have you ever been a mayor before? Have you run for mayor anywhere before? If so, how did it turn out?

Today I received several calls wanting me to respond to some of the silly chatter on this site. I would prefer to see it as foolish pranks that reflect the immaturity of those in hiding. Personal attacks are not productive and are usually without merit. But always reveal the lack of character of the one attacking.

For those of you who have hidden your identity I want to say, those who steal or attempt to steal from others, accuse others from their own guilt, and want to be the only game in town by trying to destroy others with vile comments based on false statements NEVER prevail in the end and are soon found out.

With that said, ALL of the information provided by the attackers is false. Why would anyone speak such foolishness and jeopardize their own credibility? It has been my experience that when an attacker slings mud it is usually because he has made his own pile and is now trying to sling it on someone else.

All of this sillyness does not help the City of Lenoir. Good ideas, new vision, and working through our differences are much more productive. Lee Iaccoca said it best, "You have three choices, you can lead, follow, or get out of the way". Choosing one of the above will serve the City well otherwise mud slinging will just make the community a mess.

Now that I have addressed the above let me get to a serious topic. The questions that have been presented can be answered. I would hope that we could have a conversation face to face.

For the person who asked where is the dad to the 12 children; two fathers have passed away. Three lost their mother and I raised them as the father was an alcoholic and unable to care for them. 6 were stepchildren and 1 had been severely abused and I adopted her, and two were my birth children. I was the mother of two more, one died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and the other died during pregnancy. My oldest son was killed in a car accident in 2001.

Finally, the question is asked, "why didn't I file to run instead of being a write-in candidate?". I had no intention of running for political office in Lenoir. But several people repeatedly asked me to run. Then a few major issues appeared and it became apparent that moving forward was going to be very difficult for the business community of the City. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS, is the most important issue in Lenoir. It is imperative that leaders need to have a definite vision and passion in these difficult times to create an atmosphere for real JOB creation for the unemployed and underemployed. Fairness must always prevail and seeking the best for "we the people is a must".

You still didn't reply with where you served in office, office held, etc. Your record is important.

hey, you are the one that chose social media to get your campaign started.people are curious. Now, I'm sceptical because you won't divulge basic info. You use forums to say what you want but require a one on one meeting to give basic replys. Not a good start to winning the public trust.

I was quite impressed with your post above, but I'm afraid you dropped the ball with this reply. It was a legitimate question and deserved a better answer. You may have called into question the seriousness of your desire to be helpful. I hope that can be rectified.

I am sorry this is so late in coming. I have been without internet access most of the day, Since it seems so very important to many of you I have put together a background piece that will become a brochure shortly. It will be posted on my Facebook Page, Janet Smith for Mayor, as soon as tomorrow (internet willing). My apologies to you all for being so long in coming. I do appreciate your interest in my background and how it relates to the position of Mayor. Thank you for your patience and your concerns.

As a side note, although the question is legitimate it is difficult to consider some of the posters serious since they hide their identity and use "unusual" names. This is the first community in which I have experienced this type of dialogue. I will ask your forgiveness for any disrespect I have shown to anyone who had a serious question.

Janet, can you let us know about your educational background? What schools did you attend/where did you graduate? What was/were your major(s)? Further, you speak a good deal about economic development in your posts. What is your background in this area? Do you have any formal training in economic development? A major part of economic development is networking. These networking systems take most people years to develop. What have you done since moving back to North Carolina to develop these types of networks? Can you provide us with five to ten examples (during your career) where you have been successful in bringing large, new businesses to an area? Has your name always been Janet Suzon Smith/Janet Addington Smith? If not, what was your name/names during your 35 year career? Are any of the five businesses you started in business today? If so, which ones?

Thank you for your response, and for recognizing that, unusual names or not, a mayor would want to take their questions seriously.
