Don't worry Sheriff, we will continue to work and sweat while you and your political advisor ride around and politic on county time in a county vehicle. No one knows who you are and you couldn't care less until there comes a chance you might lose that paycheck that you do nothing for, just like your BJ. We will keep on working shorthanded while you worry more about your job than us or the citizens of the county. BJ is quick to tell us what to do and never seems to do anything that is work related other than tell us to support you, give you money, makes phone lists of republicans at the office and gives them to us to call and tell them to attend your events. He acts like he has rank, you might as well give it to him. If you cared about us and the citizens half as much as you care about yourself, you might have stood a chance.

I have met the Sheriff twice, I was not impressed, he seems very arrogant.

He is very qualified. He does not have great people skills. He is probably more trustworthy than Brackett though.

Is that not par for the course.
*He did not want the job at first.
*Was pressured into taking it.
*Present party has already indorsed him before a
primary vote.
*He stated to the paper, He planned on being in
office till he retired.
Let's help him with early retirement.
Vote against him.

If Emily was alive today, I doubt she would call him or his office "Qualified".

No one is perfect. He is highly trained anyway. I assume that translates to qualified.

A Private is highly trained, but they don't make him qualified to lead. A real leader does not hide from the public. I wonder how many people in this county could tell what his name is?

The sheriff has education, training, and experience - not even comparable to Basic Training. What are Brackett's qualifications?

That's not all true. He DID want the job because he lied and manipulated to get it. He back stabbed a lot of friends to make sure he got in. The bad part is he is incapable of doing the job and now everyone is suffering. But rest...true.

Alan Jones:
A close to 20 experienced law enforcement veteran with numerous years of service. He is well educated and very highly trained. He is a fine, Christian family man & has been an administrator in local law enforcement for many years now. The fastest ever to rank of LT. at LPD. Has just about every school in law enforcement you can think of. I see two weaknesses. His decision making to include departmental decisions. Alot of this is due to some of the folks he surrounds himself with at the department and their weaknesses which are many. Ultimately, this comes back on him. Secondly, The Sheriff is not a people person. He does not get out here and interact with the community/county. You hear about him never being out and about or being seen.

Chris Brackett:
A 10 year law enforcement veteran that too is well educated and has military training. Several good strengths. Very commendable for serving in our US armed forces. Also many more weaknesses. Not as many years in law enforcement as the Sheriff. He does have the military training, however, law enforcement is a different animal. He was a jail administrator and even worked in detectives for a while. Nice, but has not worked out on the streets at any time during his tenure in local law enforcement. Working the street is the backbone to law enforcement. That is where the crime begins out in the trenches...Chris has not been there.

His website gives endorsements from several local/former law enforcement officers. I am sure if they were promised something from the Jones admin. they would support him also. Some of those on the website have been promised positions. It is listed that Mr. Brackett is a man of morals and ethics. I will question that statement in a great way. Those that have listed that will be held accountable for those statements and you know who you are. Research yourself on that one. Someone that professes to be somebody tht constantly is going to parties where he should not be and doing things he should not do does not need to be our Sheriff. I do not want to hear about morals and ethics. Look up the definition of those two words in Websters and you will not find this name listed.

Our President is a smooth talker, most would agree. You could compare the two in this aspect. For a man to go and stand in at a commissioner meeting when the Sheriff does not attend and wear a little star on his coat and pretend he is someone such as the Sheriff reaches an all time low. The list goes on. Some folks will do whatever it takes. Again Mr. Brackett has strengths but many more weaknesses.

Republican Race for Sheriff:
Jones more strengths than Mr. Brackett
Brackett many more weaknesses.

Now let us see who comes out for the Dem. side and then determine who we want as our next Sheriff. We can look at what he/she brings to the table. Sometimes I think it would be better just to wipe the whole slate clean.

Just a thought!

I am referencing information from flyers and business cards that both candidates have distributed.
Sheriff Jones is not the fastest to ever reach the rank of Lt. Ask some of the more established/older officers and they will tell you that it is one of Allens former supervisors. Captain Brackett spent many years on the military and when he came to the Sheriffs office he worked in Narcotics as an undercover officer, too me and many others that is what is a major problem in our county today, Sheriff Jones has never worked narcotics. Captain Brackett worked most of his career as a detective and did a great job, he worked and supervised that division and was very accessible and helped everyone. Captain Brackett was promoted to Captain by Sheriff Clark and asked to clean up the jail, he did and received many high marks for it. Captain Brackett was the first person at the Sheriffs office to get his masters degree, he has many hours of training and education and practicle experience that is important. Sheriff Jones got his masters degree after Captain Brackett, Jones has made bad decisions by the truckload and has surrounded himself with many questionable people. Captain Brackett stood for us when Sheriff Jones wouldn't, he was at home, but lied about being in Va. We figured that out and then he lied when he sent us a letter trying to explain why he wasn't there. Jones has never been around when the department or the county was in trouble. Captain Brackett has never turned any of us away if we needed something, he always helped. Jones may have training and education, but it is the man that makes the difference, not the paper on the wall. The officers that have endorsed Captain Brackett are all good ones that left because Jones is not a Sheriff. You talk about morals and ethics, you may want to hold on that one, Jones has lied to many of us over and over, Captain Brackett never lied to us. As far as attending parties, I don't believe Captain Brackett would do anything wrong. Jones is a snake in the grass and Captain Brackett is who we need.

I think that quote should be one of the youngest to ever reach the rank of LT with LPD.

As a voter, I would be interested in why Brackett left the department, and what has he been doing since he left. If he was doing such a great job, as noted by MoreInfo (who may or may not work at the department), why did he leave?

Also, I would like to know how the existing make-up of the department would change under his administration.

I have met both candidates at different times, but I will tell you the, Jones treated me like I was an inconvienence and blew me off without answering my questions. Brackett, on the other hand, stopped what he was doing and actually listened to my questions and answered each one. I read all these posts comparing these candidates but I will tell you this, meeting them in person and actually interacting with them will sure let you know which man should have the job of Sheriff. You can tell who should have the job by the way he treats the public. I have friends who have had the same experiences I have had with Jones and Brackett. We will be voting for Brackett, the candidate who took the time to interact with us and didn't treat us like we were stopping him from doing something more important. Nothing should be more important to the Sheriff than the citizens he is elected to serve and protect.

Just a reminder that we haven't seen the Democratic candidate yet. Of course, Republican-registered voters will have to choose between these two men in the primary, but I believe there is a good chance neither one will be our Sheriff come election day.

I wish we had a better choice than Jones or Brackett. Neither one of them seems all that good to me. Jones is aloof and gives the appearance that he does not do much of anything. Brackett is "momma's boy" and I have to question his judgment in quitting his job and starting his campaign over two years before the election.
If I have to choose between the two I would probably go with Jones. He has put David Anderson in as major and Anderson is good. If Brackett wins he might change it.
