Todd's Country Store in Buffalo Cove will be open for a pig roast and some bluegrass pickin' on Saturday, October 23rd. Sadly, Todd's closed down for good a couple of years ago. However the Todd and Miller family are having a tribute day to say thank you to all those who frequented it through the years.
This will be our last chance to see a North Carolina historical site while enjoying some great BBQ and Bluegrass. The address for those interested is 6353 Buffalo Cove Road. Buffalo Cove Road is located off Hwy 268 just north of Patterson School. |

Who is the bluegrass band?
|
|
|
What time does it start?

They have not yet announced who will be playing Bluegrass. I understand there will be members of the old rock and roll band "Reno" in attendance and it is possible they will play some old time rock.
The store will be open early. However most activities will start mid-morning and continue throughout the day. I hated to see the old place close down. It was not only convenient, it was a good place to hang out on a Saturday afternoon and listen to stories from the old timers. As is the case throughout our country, another old landmark gone forever.... |

Todds would still be open today if it hadn't been for someone who tried to change everything. If they would have left it alone it would still be there today. But they tried to change the look inside and change the entire menu and after that everything went down hill!!! Oh well I sure many people in the buffalo community know who I am talking about!!!!!!!!!!

i'm with you Fred they drove it in the ground and yes I know exactly who your talking about. If my memory serves me it was more the wife that sent it down.

Judged: 1 Mr. Todd's daughter and son-in-law ran it successfully for 20 years after Mr. Todd passed away. They had to retire, but I don't believe that either they nor possibly even ole John Carl himself could make it work in this economy. So let's not blame the most recent proprietors for their efforts in keeping the store alive. |

Judged: 1 Do you think Todd's will reopen at some point in the future? Are you related to the Todd family? It was a cool, old store. It is a shame it is merely another casualty in this joke we call an economy. |
|
The reason the store was "changed up" by the most recent proprietors was to attempt to keep it running. It was a last effort before the doors were closed. The store was operating in the red and couldn't make ends meet so, something new was tried but it failed to. It was truly the economy the reason it was "changed up" and the reason it went under. With the way things are in the economy I doubt it will reopen.

I think if the economy ever gets back to normal Mike or one of the other grand kids may re-open the store. I am not related to the Todd family. |
We know for sure that Patrick and Kaye Crouch will be on hand. More will follow. I'll keep it updated here. |

Hey Truth: Keyword being "Joke"...and I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately the joke's on us. My grandfather ran the store for over 60 years, then my parents ran it for 18 years. The old store survived the Great Depression but not this. Todd's Store was operated with integrity and common sense by folks that watched every penny. The Banks and corporate businesses in USA were operated by greed, excess and absolutely NO common sense. Yet, they get OUR money to bail them out in reward for their stupidity. There were no bailouts for small institutions likes Todds and countless other little mom&pops. Todd's will be featured in a documentary that will air nationwide early next year on PBS called "Our Vanishing Americana" ...and yes, our roots and our heritage are quickly vanishing. I grew up in Todd's Store in the 1950s. It broke my heart when the doors closed last year. My brother and I made a film about the history of the store that can be viewed on You Tube in 9 parts. Here's a link to part one. You can copy and paste it to your browser. http://www.youtube.com/watch... |

They need to get the Harris bros on board. If I'm not mistaken I think one of them lives in Buffalo Cove! They have great talent and along with Kay & Patrick, that would be some mighty fine pickn!

Reggie and Ryan were playing shows with my brother Marty's group in Louisville this weekend. I told Marty to mention it to them and I also posted an invite on their Facebook page. We'll keep our fingers crossed. They are awesome pickers for sure. |
