Absolutely. That is why I find it so funny when "SS" gets his panties in a wad over the comment.

Logics Lesson #2.

SS,

What did you do EARLIER this year? You WENT to college. I NEVER said ANYTHING about you graduating.

What did you do AFTER you started your job at the Rolling Stone? You became a cook who fried at least one thing.

Please tell me you are able to grasp this most basic of concepts?

Default would/will certainly be a bummer but it would end the debt cycle because no one would ever loan us money again. Nationalizing the banks and oil companies is unlikely at this time because their dollars control our congress . It will become even more unlikely if the supreme court soon rules that campaign contributions are unlimited (as I expect that they will and that will end up making the guilded age look like a walk in the park). That leaves option 1, raising taxes AND cutting services. But if
big money completely takes over as a result of the supreme court decision( as I expect it will), then tax increases are unlikely. That takes us back to default and the resulting collapse where almost everyone ends up being equally destitute.
The point is that we either act soon, raise taxes and have a controlled survivable crash or fail to act and have an out of control crash in which survival is unlikely. I give the highest probablilty to the out of control senario because both parties are in denial and neither will allow a plan of action.

Don't think the Republicans are stupid enough to fall for the Democrat line "If you agree to raise taxes, we'll agree to cut spending." again. The problem is too much spending!

For the most part I agree with this assessment.

I believe the best course of action is a massive cut in spending in all areas, military, corporate and individual welfare, foreign aid, etc. Couple this with a complete overhaul of the tax codes where EVERYONE pays some level of tax. Add to this a bond/T-bill holiday which will haircut the biggest owners (China and Japan) and move forward from there.

The one area we disagree on is whether or not they would continue to lend us money. If a high enough interest rate were offered, along with a collatoralization of the loans, countries would jump back in to buy them. Remember this, the U.S. is still the biggest and the best dog on the porch economically. However, I would be against this action because I believe we should all (government included) live within our means.

This reboot would be ugly, harsh, and fairly long-lasting. What would result would be a country full of MUCH more responsible people. The lazy, deadbeats would have long since changed their ways or died off. The idea of a "Mad Max" band of roving gangs would not last long as the U.S. populace is extremely well armed and getting moreso each day. What would occur is a much greater sense of community interaction for survival and security reasons.

We agree that there is too much spending but the problem is not that simple. If we cut out ALL government spending on military, services, law enforcement, environment , oil subsidies, agricultural subsidies, transportation, highways, social security, medicare, medicaid, regulation,etc.---everything, all government spending, we still do not have enough tax collections to pay off the national debt. That means we have no other choice but to raise taxes.

So this is the best Harvard can doT teach people like Obama to be a Idi Amin want-to-be. What a junk human Obama is.
People who have put their lives on the line to defend this country and Obama could care less about their children.
He would perfer give jobs away to illegals kids.
We have millions of young legal Americans who need jobs, the children of parents who have given their lives, generation after generation to support this country.
Obama, the Dictators of the United Socialist Authority has decided to spit on Americans and their children.

Let's get to a balanced annual budget first. Government debt is incurred by selling treasury notes, bills and bonds that have maturities ranging from a few days to thirty years.
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/indiv/products/...
We would not call in all those instruments at once. We would pay them off as the instruments mature. Debt service is included in the annual budget. If we quit borrowing today the U. S. would be debt free in less than thirty years.

some of these kids were children of illegals..who had served in the armed forces...illegally of course...they..in a lot of cases..didn't even know they were illegal ...but that doesn't matter...does it? Taxpayer doesn't care about human beings...he cares about platitudes...he cares about lofty ideals...to send someone who has been in this country since they were babies..who in many cases are just mere weeks or months from obtaining high school diplomas...who know nothing of their birth countries...in some cases not even able to speak the language of their birth country...taxpayer doesn't care about them...they aren't real Americans...you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet...communists had the same philosophy regarding the importance of individual people...
