We can't read, when your posts are the only ones that are not vaguely relevant to the thread topic?

Here a copy of the letter I sent to our congressman,

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing you concerning the delay in EBT accounts. I understand there are computer problems in updating the accounts. We have a slight problem; my wife is a dialysis patient and requires a special diet. I have contacted Haywood County where we reside and they have informed us that there may be a 45 day delay in crediting the EBT accounts; we were never notified that there was a problem. They have offered food vouchers from local charities but the food they offer is often high in salt and potassium and other ingredients she cannot consume. The problem is we need our EBT credits for my wife’s special diet. This is a serious problem and we cannot seem to get any help or understanding from local authorities or the state of North Carolina.

I was supposed to get mine on the 7th. When I checked my card that morning. I had 85 cents. I re-certified last month. When they dss worker called me back she said they were still entering middle of Aprils information that it could be 2 months. What I am worried about is that my kids are out of school, but I will go hungry before my kids do. Caldwell County knew this had to be done; why did they wait till it was backed-up before they brought in extra help. The lady did say they were working on Saturdays to catch up but I will believe that when I see it. But we are survivors and will get through this. We need to keep our faith.

The state forced these changes on the counties with no forethought of sending extra help or the effect it would have on the needy. County dss cannot just immediately hire trained extra support people. No $$$ budgeted and you cannot pick a person off the street to do complicated work.

the price of food has skyrocketed ridiculously. best advice I can give is advice I take myself.
Hit the coupons wide open, pay attention to store sells, buy in bulk when you can and when it won't be wasted. Compare price per ounce when making a choice about what you are going to buy. I was shopping today at a local grocery and they had a 6 pack of raman noodles supposedly on sale for $1.59. I look down a little lower on the shelf, and there sits individual packs, 5 for a dollar. So in buying a 6 pack of noodles, I would have paid 59 cents more for that last pack of noodles. I stocked up on the 5 for a dollar and came out better. If you find yourself with a little extra on the food stamp card, buy things with a longer shelf life to put back just in case you ever find yourself short again. PLAN AHEAD! what would it be if everyone was in the same perdicamate and nobody had extra food? That's why taking your time and using good planning makes a big difference. One more thing? Don't make special food for each person just because that person doesn't like the food you are preparing. There is a lot of money wasted that way. Teach your kids to eat what they have on their plates and be thankful they have something on those plates. When I was growing up, we ate what we had or we did without.

likewise, they can't just hire someone off the streat to do the job because of HIPPA laws and confidentiality.

I talked to my worker just this past week who confirmed they are still doing Aprils. This really sucks for all the children who are out of school and stuck at home without much food. Its also unfortunate for the parents who will struggle all summer to make ends meet...including me.

Good luck to all who are doing without.

Don't know about others, but I don't have money for beer, cigs. Would not buy that slop anyway. I get healthly foods with my ebt. Plus my car is 13 years old, and falling apart, not to mention tore up all the time. Some people really need this help from DSS!
For you to put everyone in the same category is very ignorant of you. I'm a working single mother of two, with no help from their father, in which I used to be married to. I still need help from dss, and yes I do get some name brand items at the store, but I also get off brand items...if it's good the brand doesn't matter. I do NOT buy beer or cigs. Just like "cjp" said, some people really need the help. Yes some people misuse the system but at the same time like me, some of us use it as we're suppose to. So think before you speak or type.

I think this is really bullshit. There are people who need food. then DSS comes to your house & you get in trouble if you have no food. Great Job Caldwell County, NC and Raleigh. I have a daughter who is raising 3 kids alone, one of them is a special needs baby, and she has no food. I am unable to help her, those kids are hungry!!
And yet you can pay for Internet service...

Here in Meck.County delays are happening at the wrong time. I rent to a girl who has a son with an intestinal problem. She claims she used her rent money to buy food for her and her 2 kids. I on the other hand haven't been able to make ends meet being I have to move money from other acct. To pay the mortgage on the rental unit. so Thanks to Meck.County and state government, there will be a homeless and hungry family on the street if I don't get my 2 months rent.

<quoted text>Who the hell are you to complain about off brand or processed friggin food, if you are unable to buy what you want then take what the hell you get. It should be illegal to purchase name brand food with food stamps in the first place. I work two damn jobs to make ends meet, BUY my groceries. I have to bargain shop and buy off brands so should anyone receiving EBT. Sick of seeing people at the store getting 300 dollars worth of free name brand groceries, steaks, ice cream and sodas only to pay cash for damn beer and cigs then go get in a nearly new car.
Maybe some people take advantage but you can't judge everyone. I am disabled, have no car, and am practically bedridden. I am college educated and I used to work. I have a dead beat ex husband who doesn't help with our child. So think about what you say before you go judging people.
