anybody else had food stamps/ebt delayed? 2 months late on ours. When you ever get them, do you get the back month you never recieved, Don't care about the late ones, just need food for my grandkids we are raising. Had to spend monthly bill money on food, now bills are a month late. Are they ever going to address this delay?

Again, thank Raleigh for the delay. They made all the counties convert their computer system to something called NC Fast well fast it is not. All casss during review times have to be manually rekeyed. The state provided no funding for more clerical help. The staff at all county DSS have been basically working unpaid OT and cannot get this done, some have got sick pushing themselves too hard, Raleigh cares less about you or the local counties and took nothing in consideration before changing this.

My EBT card was up for renewal when this crap happened. 17 days without a food card so far. I'm not starving but it sure is taking a toll.

Might have to hit the woods for a little poaching to put meat on the table soon.

Hopefully there won't be a heatwave this year. My garden is already looking pretty good. The last 2 years the heatwaves killed production so I didn't get to can much.

Grand View Park Baptist Church may be able to assist with their Angel Food Program. Not certain but it wouldn't hurt to ask. You may want to be the first in line tomorrow at DSS to get this resolved or see if there is some other form of assistance for emergency situations. Sorry this is happening to you.

Thank you. I keep calling the DSS and they just keep saying they are far behind and working on it. I know some in Caldwell County have waited 3 months.

I've used Angel Food before through the Disabled American Veterans in Hudson. It's a waste of money, which I don't have anyway.

Most of what I got was processed, old, and off brand. I ended up dumping most of it in my compost pile. At least some of it come from dollar stores.

Processed foods are not food and they are terrible for your health.

Yes, I have had some people tell me the stuff they give at most food banks are way out of date. I hit 3 months without loading my card today. The DSS lied and told us Friday we would get them , that they were working on them Friday. I believe they just wanted to get off the phone. Call them all the time and all you get is a recording. Sometimes they call back 2-3 days later. Mostly don't call back.

Who the hell are you to complain about off brand or processed friggin food, if you are unable to buy what you want then take what the hell you get. It should be illegal to purchase name brand food with food stamps in the first place. I work two damn jobs to make ends meet, BUY my groceries. I have to bargain shop and buy off brands so should anyone receiving EBT. Sick of seeing people at the store getting 300 dollars worth of free name brand groceries, steaks, ice cream and sodas only to pay cash for damn beer and cigs then go get in a nearly new car.

Don't know about others, but I don't have money for beer, cigs. Would not buy that slop anyway. I get healthly foods with my ebt. Plus my car is 13 years old, and falling apart, not to mention tore up all the time. Some people really need this help from DSS!

I had the opportunity to volunteer at a food bank in Boone. Let me tell you this: I met many grateful, thankful people there. But on the other hand, I also had the opportunity to meet some of the rudest, most unappreciative people... They would gripe about the food they received. I would be ashamed. If I were there getting free food I think I would at least keep my mouth shut if it didn't meet my standards... Secondly, a few bad apples makes the whole barrel look bad sometimes.. I shop at Walmart for groceries every week. Last weekend, I was in line behind two women (dressed like men, very large saggy breasts wearing sleeveless T-shirts with no bras-- thank you.. I appreciated having to look at that for 20 minutes while I stood in line!)Anyway, these women had a buggy full of prepared salads, foot long sandwiches.. Cheese cake trays... Most of their things came pre-prepared from the deli. I work 40 hours weekly and my significant other works 45 hours weekly and WE would be hard pressed to pay for a buggy full of things like that! I guess that is why people get frustrated with the system. I sure do! Needing help is one thing but taking advantage of the system is another.

My health is very important to me so I have nearly eliminated processed foods and all fast foods from my diet. As a result, my health has greatly improved. If I do eat that processed crap like most people do, it tears me up, so I can't eat it anymore.

I also try to avoid GMO poison, which processed foods are loaded with.

I don't drive a new car and I've never owned a new car. I drive a 94 Ford that used to belong to my late Granny. I don't eat steak, nor do I smoke or drink soda. I rarely ever drink. I don't get $300 on my EBT. I get $200 which is the minimum allowed. That amount will never increase unless Congress changes it.

Also, I raise a garden every year. I'm not very good at it, but I'm getting better. I save a small fortune just by growing my own herbs.

The most I've ever made in a year was $11,000 and I lived pretty well with absolutely no welfare. It helps that I don't have kids or a wife to support.

If you work 2 jobs and still can't eat decent food, then most likely you are trying to live beyond your means and you're a poor manager of your finances.

My dad gets$12 so no $200 is not the minimum. But I to try to eat health tell me more about the GMO poisoning you are talking about.

I also have worked at various food banks and it is true that alot of the people who come to them complain about what they receive. Also there are several people that goes to alot of food banks then sells what they received at the flea market.
I believe the food stamps should be for basic foods. Not soda, chips and junk food. Beans, meat, veggies .

How long have ebt users been waiting to have cards uploaded on this new NCFAST (I mean slow) thing? My renter has been waiting 2 months. I can see her losing weight because she gives what she has to her kids. I'm helping them out some and she does my yard work for me. To bad she had a sorry loser cheating bum of a husband who run out on her. I'm just wondering how long everybody else has had to wait on their card because of this new system at social service.

I meant maximum. Here's the benefit chart. http://www.ncdhhs.gov/dss/foodstamp/

As for GMO (genetically modified organism) poison, if you don't already know about this, then you've got a lot to learn. GMO crops are altered by forcing genes from other organisms into the genome of food crops, like corn for example. They literally use a gun to shoot in the new genetic material. Mostly GMO crops are altered to produce their own pesticides and herbicides. There's also loads of other unintended genetic changes. It's been proven time and time again that those genes remain active and continue producing pesticides and herbicides even after you've eaten them. The health effects on humans and animals both are very serious. Various cancers are just one issue. Crohn's disease is another.

Here's a little info on it:
http://www.naturalnews.com/037249_GMO_study_c...

http://www.naturalnews.com/039864_GMO_corn_nu...

Search around. There's loads of info on GMO.

The recipients at the food bank that I volunteered at had started actually trying to return the canned and boxed food. The UPC codes had to be marked out with a sharpie...
