WHY am I not suprised that some group has decided they know better then GOD what GOD means. Many preachers do it all the time.
People like that have some serious issues and problems in their lives and they seem to think by looking down on others, and making pronouncments of what is right and wrong in their usually narrow minded views will make them superior or special in some way.
The bible has been translated and re-translated during the past almost 2000 years that I am sure much to the original intent and actual verbage has been lost. After all, it was originally passed from person to person by word of mouth.
The first written version of the Bible was in Aramaic (not sure on the spelling) then eventually into Greek, then Flemish, then Dutch, and it was MANY years before it was translated into ENGLISH.
As someone posted earlier, the King James is ONLY ONE VERSION of the Bible.
And what about the popes like Constantine and I think Gregory who took books out of the bible they didn't like during middle ages conclaves?
And where is all the text about Jesus between the ages of 12 and 30?
Remember God was the inspiration for the Bible. Other than the 10 Commandents, HE didn't place anything in writing, that was done by man, and man screws things up CONSTANTLY.
Interpretation of the Bible is a very subjective thing and unfortunately can and has been used for evil purposes.(Jim Jones comes to mind, and that group that goes to soldier's funerals spewing hate and bigotry in the name of God... you know the one who says God hates Tennessee.)
Queen the Elizabeth the first has been credited with saying "God is God, Jesus is our lord and savior, the rest is all piffle."
Smart Lady.

Queen the Elizabeth the first has been credited with saying "God is God, Jesus is our lord and savior, the rest is all piffle." Smart Lady. Excellent post. I am especially interested in the 'Apocryphal" books that didn't make it into the Biblical canon. They include: The First Book of Esdras; The Second Book of Esdras; Tobit; Judith; The Additions to the Book of Esther; The Wisdom of Solomon; Ecclesiasticus (or the Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach); Baruch; The Letter of Jeremiah; The Prayer of Azariah and the Song of the Three Young Men; Susanna; Bel and the Dragon; The Prayer of Manasseh (my personal favorite for its abject humility and mournful plea to God with language unrivaled by the most lovely poetic works attributed to David); The First Book of Maccabees; and The Second Book of Maccabees. The evolution of the Biblical canon is a fascinating historical picture of the melding of religious and political power guided (hopefully) by the hand of God. The sheer audacity of openly re-writing it as it has come down to us SPECIFICALLY for the purposes of advancing a particular political or ideological doctrine is stunning.

I don't often get a chance to share my fascination with the Apocrypha books because most people are not interested. I am always thrilled when I do a chance to share so, with your indulgence, The Prayer of Mannasseh:
1. O Lord Almighty, God of our fathers, of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and of their righteous seed,
2. You Who have made heaven and earth with all their adornment,
3. You Who have bound the sea by the word of your command, You Who have shut the deep, and sealed it with your fearsome and glorious Name,
4. You at whom all things shudder, and tremble before Your power,
5. for unbearable is the magnificence of Your glory, and not to be withstood is the anger of Your threat toward sinners,
6. and unmeasurable and inscrutable is the mercy of Your promise,
7. for You are the Lord Most High, compassionate, patient, and merciful, repenting from the evil deeds of people.
You, O Lord, according to the fullness of Your clemency, promised repentance and forgiveness to those who have sinned against You, and in the fullness of Your mercies, You have appointed repentance for sinners toward salvation.
8. Therefore, You, O Lord, God of the righteous, have not given repentance for the righteous, for Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, who had not sinned against You, but you have given repentance for me, the sinner.
9. For I have sinned more than the number of sand of the sea; my lawless deeds are multiplied, O Lord, multiplied, and I am not worthy to look and see the heights of heaven because of the multitude of my unrighteous deeds.
10. I am bent down by too many a bond of iron for the lifting of my head because of my sins, and there is no relief for me, for I have provoked Your wrath and done evil before You. I have set up abominations and multiplied provocations (idols).
11. And now I bend the knee of my heart, begging for Your clemency.
12. I have sinned, O Lord, I have sinned, and I know my lawless deeds.
13. I am asking, begging You: forgive me, O Lord, forgive me! Do not destroy me with my lawless deeds, nor for all ages keep angry with me, nor condemn me to the depths of the earth, for You, O Lord, are the God of those who repent.
14. And in me You will display Your goodness, for, my being unworthy, You will save me according to Your great mercy.
15. And I will praise You throughout all the days of my life, for all the power of the heavens sing Your praise. For Yours is the glory, to the ages. Amen.
Lovely ...:)

Personally I think Mr Webb's post are well written, articulate, and informative. I found the conservative bible project to be a nice bit of humor. I'm waiting for the liberal bible project to start, to dispute the bible's conservative viewpoints, lol. It's no surprise actually to hear of an attempt to re-write the bible to fit someone's viewpoint. Conservative Christians frequently referred to the bible in support of Slavery just before the Civil War. Conservative Christians also opposed the Civil Rights movement. The KKK is a Conservative Christian organization. If you want to fault the Liberals for something, you can blame them for Equal Opportunity, or Woman's lib. And judging by some of the posts regarding our current President, apparently Racism is still a Conservative viewpoint.

Personally I think Mr Webb's posts are well written, articulate and full of falsehoods. He enjoys verbally brutalizing the less articulate in an effort to make himself look good and stroke his own ego. It is a logical assumption that he uses these same tactics in his personal relationships.
It is also apparent that he posts under several names to give himself credibility and support. Once again, another way to stroke his ego and appear superior.
It is no surprise that individuals and groups interpret the Bible for their own purpose. My Webb has already done that online on numerous occasions. The last being in support of Obamacare. In fact the Nazi'z did the same thing to promote some of the same causes that Mr. Webb supports in the name of socialism/liberalism.
Finally, I read that "racism is still a conservative viewpoint." Once again, another falsehood that supports one's view point when they have nothing else to base it on.
Enjoy stroking your egos Mr. Webb. Some of us have to go to work and don't have the time or interest to post here on a continuous basis.
Goodbye!

Once, many years ago, I competed in a race for which I had not adequately prepared myself and was embarrassed by my abysmal performance. I can only offer my sympathy and the caution than you're in the deep water now. On public discussion forums, there are people who can think critically and don't have their world view spoon fed by Glenn Beck. If you're going to happily contend here, you'll need to be better prepared than being able to recite the Fox News horse manure du juor. Oh, and as a matter of simple language skill, my holding a different opinion about the same set of facts doesn't make them "falsehoods". If you can refute the factual merits of what I post here (or anywhere else), please do so. If I'm wrong, I can certainly use the correction, and whether I'm wrong or not, you can obviously use the critical thinking and research practice.

Considering this thread was based on the Conservative Bible Project, and it includes a link to the actual site, then how you can construe that to be a falsehood. The facts are there, he didn't make it up, and he provides proof of the issue. Now if it's a falsehood, provide us with the TRUTH from a reputable source. Since you seem to think your smarter than Mr Webb is, surely you can find it. And if you can't, then stop making false accusations. Just because you don't agree with someone's viewpoint, doesn't make it false. Now if you feel so strongly that you and you alone know the truth, then back it up with some shred of evidence. Just because you have faith in something being true, doesn't make it true. A child may believe that Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the tooth fairy are all true. But once he's provided the facts, that they are just imaginary beings, then he knows the truth. So quit telling us that Santa exists, unless you can back it up.

Racism as a Conservative viewpoint. Well history supports that claim. Conservative Baptists in the South were opposed to the Liberal Baptists in the North regarding Slavery. Conservatives' were opposed to the Civil Rights movement. Conservatives were opposed to the woman's lib movement. The Southern Baptist organization was formed in 1845 because of Slavery (they supported it), a survey in 1968 showed that less than 11% of SBC churches would allow African-Americans in their congregation, and in 1955 they formally apologized for their support of Slavery. Another well-known conservative Baptists group in America is the KKK. I dare you to find one Liberal or non-Christian Klan member. So I'm proud of my Liberal political viewpoint, because I believe everyone was created equal and should be treated equally.
In your words, "Finally, I read that "racism is still a conservative viewpoint." Once again, another falsehood that supports one's view point when they have nothing else to base it on." Another falsehood with nothing to base it on, well luckily, I can easily pull up the info and provide historical evidence that supports my viewpoint. What is missing is any evidence on your part to disprove my FACTS. So before you accuse someone of lying or making stuff up, get some facts together to support your claim, or keep looking stupid and making a fool of yourself.
Now I'll provide a falsehood based on my own viewpoint. "Mr Tired of his Mouth" is a Rhodes Scholar, with a direct line from God who provides him and him only with the TRUTH." There, feel free to disprove that one, because I've no facts to the contrary. I'm just pulling it out my butt like you do.

It is a well known fact, that most of the conservatives are proud of their racism. After the liberals fought hard and passed civil rights legislation in the mid sixties, the conservatives led by Nixon decide to use the "southern stratagy" and use this against the democrats to split the southern wing of the party from the main party. Thus enabling Nixon to win.
