What is going on at LCUB. My bill was destroyed by the post office and I went to pay it and I was told unless I have the bill or I am the one on the account they cannot take my payment? If I choose to pay online it cost extra. If I want to help my mom out with her bill I have to have the bill? LCUB says it a privacy issue - I do not remember signing a privacy statement with them I am sure there is more going on than I understand but it does not make sense from where I stand. Does anyone else know?

Actually, I don't think that policy is legally enforceable.

The key statment in the initial post is "or I am the one on the account."
Example: Joe Blow walks in and wants to pay the bill of Jane Doe. Jane is having a hard time keeping her bills current and Joe is just a super guy wanting to help out. The customer service reps pulls up the bill, releases the information and the bill gets paid. The truth is Joe Blow is the ex-boyfriend/ex-husband of Jane Doe. All he really wants to know is the address to do her harm. Or, he wants the account information to figure out whether her new boyfriend is living there. Or, he suspects wants to know if she's keeping her bills current so he can use that information in a custody dispute. Make sense? It does to Jane Doe. |

What? Someone else making perfectly good sense? Do this slowly and routinely and maybe, just maybe this LC thread will be a resemblance of how most people of Lenoir City truly think and feel! More sense-able post please!!! |

"No payment" hit the nail on the head when she said "How the world is changing quickly."
When I went to high school boys carried pocket knives and had a gun rack in their truck, yet no one feared for their life. Doctors could tell the family what was going on with dad without fear of violating HIPPA laws. Placing a nativity scene on public property wasn’t illegal, it was expected. Women and children could walk the street without fear of being kidnapped, raped and murdered. Stalking was something you did when you went hunting. People, in general, treated each other with respect, even when they didn't like each other. Getting in trouble at school meant begging the teacher not to tell your parents instead of running home to whine to parents how you’ve been wronged. Fear of God, mom and dad kept us on the straight and narrow until we were mature enough to understand why the rules exist. Today we have more rules than ever with more people ignoring them or trying to figure out how to get around them. Pornography was a peak at a Playboy centefold that one of your classmates got his hands on and not a daily diet off the internet and TV. Political parties had a number of respected leaders on both sides who could debate issues and vote. Today we simply call each other names. Socialism was something our fathers and grandfathers fought against instead of something we embraced. Yes, the world is changing quickly. |
