I support cattle prods in the classroom. I had a very good teacher at NMS. Her name was Mrs. Laughlin and if you did something wrong you knew she would take care of you. Everyone respected/feared her and for good reason. I am good friends with her to this day and credit her with my alot of my success thus far.

Everyone Knows - this thread is not about kicking a child, it's about publicly skewing some teacher because someone's precious little brat came home whining and complained. It's also about being selfish because someone didn't get their way.

If the @hat that started this thread had one lick of sense and any evidence, they would have taken the issue to the approrpiate authority. Kicking a child, or anyone else, is assault.

I did raise some pretty good kids. Know why? I didn't believe every cock n' bull story they concocted to get some sympathy. Beleive it or not, there are always two sides to every story. I didn't assume that everything my kids told me was gospel. I took the time to find the truth, not log online to commiserate with someone else.

Everyone Knows - it's nice to know that you and your kids are so perfect that they could never be wrong.

Me nor my children are perfect, but you sound just plain mean. Your children made up a lot of stories to get your sympathy, huh? Sounds like children badly lacking parental attention to me. And YES, it is about kicking a child. The original poster, although asked, never stated this teachers name, so how are we "skewing teachers"? I also never saw anyone posting about how all our teachers were just evil, mean, people. Are you a teacher (God I hope not) or something that you felt that a womans post over concern for children's well-being was enough to make you be so defensive. I am amazed that you have children, you don't sound very nurturing to me. I feel for you kids, I bet they grew up walking on egg shells around you.
P.S. what is "@hat"? You keep referring to people as "that @hat"

It was probably blown WAAAAAYYYY out of proportion. No teacher should ever kick a kid with intent to harm them unless they are being attacked by the student. But I agree with the others. You take discipline out of school and this is what you get. Parents do not teach respect and discipline at home, then send their snot nosed brats to school and expect teachers to listen to them run their smart mouths and do nothing about it. All they ever need is a good old fashion Earl Thomas paddling and that would straighten them up. I had one, and thats all it took.

Let me pose this question since we are not going to discuss the school/teacher, but rather schools should be able to physically punish. If the parents do not discipline the child at home ever, then what will the school paddling the child do? Nothing. If that is the only discipline they ever get, I'm afraid it would not be enough.

Sorry to tell you "everyone knows" but you are the problem. When we lost the ability to discipline kids...we lost the school.

ONCE AGAIN, I find myself RESTATING the fact that I AM NOT against school discipline!! You can hand out all the detentions, suspensions, whatever you want. But I DO NOT agree with someone physically laying a hand on my child NO. And I would assume that since you are going by "former educator" that means you have no children and that is why you don't understand. I can't imagine someone having a child and saying "yes, beat my child with a large wood stick whenever you feel its necessary." NO sorry. Your the big educator, do your research on child development and the human mind, see what we have learned in the past 10 years. No stranger who does not love my child will ever lay a finger on them.

P.S. When PARENTS stopped disciplining the children, you lost the school.

I agree. I don't understand some(NOT most) of the teachers who don't even seem to like children. If you don't believe that kids are blessings and amazing little chalkboards that you get to help write who they will be (as adults) on, the WHY be in that line of work, there are only a thousand other jobs where you NEVER have to deal with a kid. So yes, defiantly punish when its needed, we need teachers and parents to come together over behavior issues, that would be wonderful. But please never physically HURT my children, that is just not acceptable.

I bet your kids are just dandy too. Paddlings worked well for everyone I went to school with. It was a great deterrant for bad behavior. Child development, the human mind? Go back to your shrink and let him bring out how you were psychologically abused by aliens or some stupid crap like that. Spare the rod, spoil the child. You need your as# whipped with a wooden stick.

While I am "going back to my psychologist", maybe you should go back and read your bible before you misquote it again. Its spoil the rod, hate the child. It means simply that if you love your child, you will discipline and guide them. I know plenty of people who were never whipped and turned out to be a great people. I am not against spankings, I was spanked, BUT NOT BY TEACHERS, by my parents. You, on the other hand, sound like you have some anger issues. Maybe you need the whipping, or maybe you should just go see "my psychologist".:)

I seriously doubt this really happened but I hope it did. These kids today need a good kicking from time to time. I see the little skateboard terrorists down there behind where the old garden spot used to be. How in the hell does a 13 year old legally get tattoos and piercings? I'll tell ya how. Their parents allow it. I saw one the other day riding a skateboard, listening to his ipod, talking on his cell phone, playing his gameboy, and smoking drugs all at the same time. I wanted to pull over and kick him myself, but his mother was watching. I started to pull over anyway and kick the mother, but then I noticed the kid was carrying a Mac-9 and his posse' was rollin' up the sidewalk behind him. Of course they were all armed and obviously on dope, and looking for victims. I almost ran out of the road trying to get my mace off the key-chain. No doubt they'd savagely killed me if I'd exited my car. I always wear a crash helmet when I drive so luckily they couldn't see my face.

I use to get my butt busted when I was in school and again when I got home. That is how it use to be. I remember when neighbors might not bust your butt. But, if they told your Mom you did something you would surely get it while they watched. Respect is what was being taught.

your right. and respect is what is missing so badly these days. I don't believe small kids behave out of respect though, I don't think they really understand that concept. I know when I was small I behaved out of fear, fear of my parents and their belt. As I grew up, the fear transferred into respect. Let me be clear in saying that by me saying that I don't think teachers/others should whip your child, its not because I am lax on punishment. I consider myself somewhat strict, and I personally received more whippings that I can ever care to remember. Still yet, I stand against anyone else physically punishing my child. Tell me what they did, and I will come right to you and whip them there. Is that really illogical thinking?

I don't think kids even know what respect is anymore.

The person making the above comments is on the payroll of Tellico Village's POA. His job is to monitor local websites and discredit any criticism of Tellico Village's management. He uses poopskull often and also uses other dirty expressions and sometimes accuses people he disagrees with of doing things some of us didn't even know people did. He is obviously some kind of sex obsessed deviant because he knows all about the wierd kinky things deviants do. Now that he has been outed maybe he will be smart enough to keep him poopy mouth shut.

No, he/she is just good at using absurdity to illustrate absurdity. You must be capable of abstract thought to understand it.

I think you may be confusing this one for the guy who usually signs his post Mr Vermont, Dover Transplant, or Poopskull something. He is constantly berating people, choosing to pick more on the people commenting then on the actual subject itself, though he isn't to skillful in the field. His vocabulary usually leaves you feeling more sorry for him than anything. You know its him because his IP address is always AL, and is usually Arley, Hartselle, or Remlap AL.
