So then, you believe the intersection of highway 11 with Ford/Muddy Creek is in city limits?

While death and injuries are a sad part of driving. Most all accidents are due to impatient or irresponsible drivers. They can't wait till its clear to pull out safely

What is safe for the person pulling out must appear to be lolly gagging to some behind him. People are so rude.
It has probably happened many times that horn blowers waiting their turn cause someone to get killed!
We should put their asses in jail!

I think they mean politicians all work together to take care of their own first. That intersection is a death trap just like Simpson Road was before the light went up.
Hope the hurry and get it done.

Thanks for telling me what you think someone else meant.

I live in loudon county but my address is Lenoir City , I know this intersection is a killer and is in the County , however Truth is the Truth let One politically influential person or member of their family get hurt or killed at this Intersection and it will be fixed ASAP. Why does it have to be put on the back burner after having been approved and funded for over a year. Maybe the funding got appropriated for something more pressing like ???? Just trying to get the Project moving Forward.
I agree BAD Intersection

I live off of Muddy Creek and use that intersection often. It is very dangerous! I've mentioned it to two commissioners in the district over the years...but so far nothing has changed. Hopefully, soon that intersection will be improved like the Shaw Ferry/HWY 11 one finally was.

SOUNDS LIKE 100S OF PEOPLE HAVE DIED THERE... I BET NOONE CAN NAME ONE SINGLE PERSON THAT HAS BEEN KILLED THERE.. I ALSO LIVE NEAR THE INTERSECTION, THE PROBLEM IS PPL WILL PASS YOU ON THE SHOULDER GOING FROM MUDDY CREEK TO HY 11,JUST SO THEY CAN GET AHEAD OF 1 CAR TO MAKE THEIR TURN.. THEY BLOCK YOU LINE OF SIGHT OF TRAFFIC COMING FROM KNOXVILLE.THIS INTERSECTION HAS BEEN THERE SINCE THE HIGHWAY WAS BUILT. IT IS THE DRIVERS TODAY THAT CAUSE THE ROADWAY TO HAVE TO BE IDIOT PROOF

There are several problems that make that a dangerous intersection.. The fact that it is on a curve on a stretch of road where people tend to drive too fast is number one.
The confusion as to who gets to go first, and being afraid someone isn't going to obey the rules as to who goes first, and there is no time to change your mind once you take off.
I was at that intersection the other day and the person coming straight across Ford to Muddy Creek was waiting for me to turn left even though he got to the intersection first. Once I decided he was not going to go, he decided I was not going to go, so we both decided to go...
Since we can't read each others minds, rather than being polite, we need to just follow the rules of the road.
Those that don't know the rules need to get off the road until they learn them. We seem to have plenty of those out there these days.

I'd bet plenty have been injured. And it is obviously very dangerous. I know people who drive out of their way just to avoid it.
Are we waiting until someone is killed there? Is that the hold up?

Several years ago, two teenage boys were killed at the intersection when they failed to stop at the intersection. That's when the caution light was installed.

temporary fix

Knoxville, TN

#16 Aug 21, 2013
Maybe if the current commissioner for the district reads this thread and the Van Shaver link, he or she will be compelled to do something temporarily until 2014. IDK, maybe as simple as those bumpy road strips that were used at the Shaw Ferry & Old Midway intersection to alert people to the changes at that intersection. When they made it a much needed 4 way stop vs the old 2 way stop only. I mention the strips because people speed through the Muddy Creek/ Ford Rd/ HWY 11 intersection. Maybe they'd slow down if it was a bumpy ride? Possibly put a patrolman at that intersection for awhile to catch speeders. Maybe the commissioner just needs some suggestions. Whatever it takes temporarily until there's a permanent fix in 2014 is better than nothing. Let's somehow lower Van's forecast for the number of expected accidents. One life lost or one life forever changed is one life too many! I was saddened to read about the reason a caution light came to be.

If Eddie Simpson had any balls he would have had this fixed by now. I know it is a State road but it inersects with a County Road.

One place we need a redlight is Hwy 11 & Sugarlimb Rd. at the justice center.

th reason it got delayed is the owner of a building that has to be torn down to put the road in . will not accept TDOTS OFFER FOR THE PROPERTY. IT WILL GO TO COURT. THEN IT WILL START AFTER THEY FINISH OTHER PROJECTS THEY ARE WORKING ION.. TDOT DOESNT NOT CARE HOW MANY WRECKS HAPPEN THERE,IT IS NOT THERE CONCERN IF PPL CANNOT OPERATE THEIR VEHICLE IN A SAFE MANNER AT ALL TIMES.

Don't know their names but both were 17. They were from Blount County and had been to Cedar Hills Golf Course playing golf. They weren't familiar with the road and came up Muddy Creek way too fast and didn't stop at the stop sign. They hit almost head on with a pickup truck and flipped on top of yet another car. They were both killed almost immediately.

I think it was 1987.
