As long as we have qualified candidates vying for the job I think the voters should decide. Why would we turn another position over to a few to fill with family and cronies?"

THE RESOLUTION FAILED, even though the present city administration worked hard to get it passed. There is evidence that shows they may have even gone so far as to use taxpayers money to pay for the newspaper and mailed out ads promoting the resolution!

Suppose we had had a treasurer with a degree in accounting, professional training and experience in the field, and who had been ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE INSTEAD OF HAVING BEEN APPOINTED BY THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION.

My guess would be that HE WOULD HAVE QUESTIONED SUCH A MOVE. And with the confidence that the interest of the people who elected him was his main priority, and that those people would support him in fulfilling the commitments of his office; he would have saved the city the embarrassment of a possible scandal and kept the taxpayers money from being used to manipulate their vote.

Every appointed officer, and every hired employee perform at the pleasure of the City Council and Mayor. They are extremely well paid by the City Council (with our tax dollars). We can all do this math!

Defeating this resolution was a victory for the people of Lenoir City and a giant step forward in defending the rights of the people to decide who will have our backs when it comes to spending our money.

I have listen and read some of the ads for the current administation and they like to talk about how great the communication is with the public. Every time the guy from the News Sentinel does an story no one from the city will comment on anything. they had the assistant talk to him last time and that is not good enough. If you communicate so well then why not answer the question when they are asked? I know of other people that cant get the answers to questions they ask or it takes forever to get them. if the communication is so good lets get some answers.

Political spin is why people keep voting for the very politicians that have dragged into the worst economy since the great depression.
They are charasmatic to get elected in the first place. Once they are in they can spin and twist with all the political influence they have to say whatever they want and make it believable.
People don't ever want to believe the people they helped put in office may not be as honest and well meaning as they proclaim to be.
If a person stays in office long enough to think like a politician, he has been at it too long.
