Reform. As your next State Representative, I will represent you to make our government responsive to the people. I pledge to accomplish this by being above all political factions, lobbyists, and self interest. I will bring a new approach to reform the antiquated laws in Nashville affecting us all.

Status Quo. My opponent, Kent Calfee, is embedded in the status quo. He served on the Roane County Commission from 1986 to 2006. He retired from his office after 20 long years of which his time was spent unsuccessfully fighting disabled tigers within his district at Tiger Haven. Six years later, he still has the same agenda. Recently he was quoted in the Roane County News renewing his vow to move on legislation against Tiger Haven in Nashville if he was elected as State Representative. Voters, I ask, is that really your top priority? I call it like I see it - Mr. Calfee is classic status quo. Fighting tigers has been Kentís priority for 20 years. I do recognize that Kent voted in lock step with his friends on the Commission for other things, but his leadership was squarely focused on fighting tigers. On the flip side, I have always believed the adage that if we keep doing the same thing, the same way, then we will likely get the same old results. We donít have time for tilting at windmills or fighting abandoned tigers. We have been embarrassed over the past few years. Let's turn the page one more time.

Itís time for a new leadership for the entire 32 district. Itís time for a new way of doing things. I believe that we have much bigger issues. I am committed to fighting for immediate reform so we can position the State and our Counties and cities for the 21st Century as we compete with other States and countries around the globe.

During the past 6-months, I have spoken to the voters about the issues that are important to them. A common theme across all political factions has been the desire to renew a civilized culture in which the government is responsive to the people by reforming the status quo. Voters tell me that their top State priority is modernizing our government for todayís economy and the future. We have so many areas to improve on. Like the voters that I have spoken with, I know that we need a new approach to governmental operations for the future, not a government stuck in the past. The status quo is just playing around the edges. I see no logical reason that our State and local governments cannot be improved. As a community leader, I know that we must aspire to achieve simplicity, efficiency and accountability in government in order to position the State and local governments to excel in the future and not just cave into the status quo. There is no time to waste; we have to get working! We can invest in our priorities through the savings and resources from true reform, not more status quo.

In the coming days and weeks I will be laying out the fundamental change needed to drive this State and our local governments into the future. As your State Representative, together, we can create the new way. I ask you to join me. We have lived through status quo for way too long. I have a strong history of leading and I'm talking about leading to benefit all the people. I am ready to get to work for you.

That's a nice collection of buzz words and phrases.
The problem is that every one of them is so vague and unspecific that a person can fit them to mean anything they like. Maybe that's what you intended.

Do you have anything specific and committal to say, other than I won't be fighting disabled tigers?
